Dreamcast Gun Games
« on: June 28, 2005, 07:15:51 pm »
I'm currently working on my Dreamcast project and just noticed that despite the VGA connection my gun games still work in my cab pefectly well. House of the Dead 2 and Confidential Mission are working great.

This brings two questions...

1) Can anyone recommend any other gun games?
2) Anyone hack the guns and paint them or doanything to make them look less like poop? Thje Dreamcast guns have got to be the ugliest gun known to the arcade gods.

Thanks in advance,

-Goz

You could pick up some Krylon Fusion spraypaint and paint them black or something.

Also the NES emulator for Dream Cast has light gun support so you can play all your favorite NES Light Gun games.

how could you forget house of the dead? its the best lightgun game on dc, plus virtua cop (which was mentioned) death crimson is ok, its playable, i think there was 1 or 2 more that im drawing a blank on right now too......

the interact guns are the best ones i have used of the sega, madkatz and interact....

im thinking of getting a ps2 as well just to have few more games and point blank.

Ooh ooh. I didn't know that! Duck Hunt baby! I gotta go do that right now!

Yeah, there's only 4 Dreamcast light gun games. If you don't like HOTD2, don't bother get a gun.

Hey Gozur, are you saying that your DC gun works with a VGA display? Is it a computer monitor? I have a monitor in my cabinet and never even bothered to try the gun because I assumed it'd only work on a TV.

The monitor in my cab is a hi-res monitor utilizing a VGA port (like a computer monitor). All of the gun games I've tried work with the (arcade/computer vga monitor) without a hitch. I am using the interact guns and they seem quite accurate and HOTD2 looks amazing. It looks exactly the same as its big brother (NAOMI) does without all the fuss of mounting screen sensors, etc.

House of the Dead wasn't forgotten. It is already mentioned in the original post, along with Confidential Mission. :P

Playstation 2 is definitely the machine to own for light gun games. As there were plenty of great ones for both it, and the original playstation.

Virtua Cop 1, 2, House of the Dead, Area 51, Crypt Killer, on the Saturn, specifically.

Excellent games.  The Saturn's gun is probably the most responsive and accurate console gun out there.

that is a pretty small list of light gun games for saturn compared to what they have for playstation2.  They have Area 51 for playstation but if you have a guncon2 you might as well play that game through Mame on your PC as the Mame version looks increadibly better than the saturn or playstation versions.
