I like listening to a lot of Heavy Metal / Rock / Techno to help me stay awake and focused when cranking on creative concepts. Anyone have some good suggestions? Lately I have been listening to a lot of the same stuff over and over. I've even been going back to older bands because I haven't heard much new stuff I like and for the past year and a half really stopped listening to the radio.
What sparked all of this? Randomly I discovered Avenged Sevenfold about a year ago. I've been following these guys for a little while and really like their stuff. They just had a new release and I picked it up. It's a lot friendlier on the ears vocally and to me that was a missing key, as I really loved what they produced. I'm hooked on this sound so now I'm in the mood for more music!
This list is just a small sampling of bands to give an idea of what I like in a few genres of music that motivates me. Really my music tastes are all over the place, but when I work I tend to listen to these a lot. Feel free to name mainstream bands also and I'm looking for more hidden gems or stuff that hardly gets radio play. Since again lately, most new music has not been doing much for me.
Metal / Rock:
Dream Theatre
Avenged Sevenfold
Chevelle
Tool (hurry up with the new one already!)
A Perfect Circle (Tool, now with half the calories!)
Blindside (First self titled cd)
Megadeth
Metallica (Mostly earlier career, some new stuff is good too)
Smashing Pumpkins
Pantera
AC/DC (nice clean sound, good rock groove)
Clutch
Rage Against the Machine
Audioslave
Techno:
BT
Tiesto
Orbital
Oakenfold
Crystal Method
Orb
Chemical Brothers
Also to those who care to participate... try not to rag on people for what they like, since music is a very personal choice. I just want some music suggestions along the lines of what I listed or something new you think I should check out, just because it rocks yer socks. It also doesn't have to be in those genres as long as it's motivating. For example, I don't listen to much rap... but I love Public Enemy because of their sonic assult on the ears, strong social/political messages and Chuck D's powerful voice.
Thanks!
