Any utilties for creating Mame filters?
« on: May 24, 2005, 03:33:00 am »
Anyone know if there are any specific utilities for generating custom filters for your game lists in Mame?

I understand the basics of creating lists of favourites and the like, but I'm looking to create a filter that seperates my rom collection alphabetically by each letter. With 1000+ plus games on your system, a full game list is ungainly and slow to scroll through. I'd like to have an 'a' to 'z' list of each letter in the alphabet, and under each the games that start with said letter.

I tried making one by hand, but the results were less than satifactory. I was going off a generated list of rom names, but the rom names don't necessarily match up with the games real title in every case. Especially when listing roms in "grouped" mode would really mess up the lists.

So, any utilities out there, or even better, a site with collections of mame filters where I might find something like this already created? Thanks in advance!

Mame doesn't use filters. Its the frontend that use filters. Which frontend are you using? If its mamewah. just press right & it will skip to the 1st game in for each letter in the alphabet

You're right, I did mean I was looking to create filters for a Mame front end, in this case Mame32FX.

But, I just noticed that the Mame32FX .96u2 version came out today, and it adds two new features to output a complete list of roms or games, so this may help in creating a properly formatted filter.

After using Mame32FX's new game-list functionality, I was able to create the alphabetical filter that I was looking for.

If you'd like it, get it here:
