XBOX Arcade Cocktail Cabinet....
« on: March 29, 2005, 07:09:55 pm »
Gonna make an XBOX arcade cabinet next...

What do people think of that idea?

The cabinet will have a 15", possibly 21" TV with an XBOX all wired up to real arcade controls.

Was thinking of having the XBOX external to the cabinet with the TV/Audio cable pluging into a junction on the side of the cabinet.

It would be ideal for games like Midway Arcade classics 1 & 2, Streetfighter and of course MAME for those of you with Modded XBOX's

I like the idea of XBox's being used. Just wondering why you'd want to have the XBox on the outside, doesn't that make having a cabinet just a fancy TV stand?

How do you intend to interface the controls??? AFAIK Xbox uses analog buttons...
I had a cool sig once... But it had to go because of *someone*... You know who you are!

you can hack the xbox to the arcade controls.  But then they'll no longer be analog, they'll become digital.

which means, its no good for things like dirving games...
(or things that need analog ctrl...)

but for the shooter games, and I think most fighting games.. its still good.

I was thinking about making an xbox cabinet, too. What do you guys think about this?

Do you think I could just mount all of those button onto the cabinet? The price sure is right!

correct me if I'm wrong cos I have had no inclination to go inside my XBox (cos IMVHO its . . . crap) - but dont they output +5 and +12 to power the DVD drive - maybe you could tap the voltage from there and run some extended wires through a hole or grill on the x-box to the fans

There's not enough amperage from the xbox power supply to do a whole lot.

If you're just powering fans then you can get away with the cheapest of the cheap ATX PSUs. Heck even an old AT would work and you wouldnt even have to hack it to be always on.
