I'm not a collector, but I do have one, which I am very proud to display. I have a German MP40, which was passed on to me just before my Grandfather died. I cherish this with all my heart !!

As a young man, I had the history of this gun drilled into my head, all of which I'll never forget. I display it with not only Pride, but LOVE for where and whom it came from.

Although my wife approves of guns in the house, we really don't want an arsenal of weapons floating around at this time in our lives. I have a young daughter whom I look forward to passing it on to when she is the right age as well. Although I won't be drilling it's history into her head , she will know her history, and all about the man who used it.

She already shows a great deal of pride, and at such an early age too.

I've a few as well. My "gun of choice" is a .357 magnum revolver, but I've moved to a H&K USP compact in .40 for a carry weapon.

Glock 27 .40 is my concealed carry gun.  I have a .40 cal Walther P99 that is cool to look at, but not as much fun to shoot.

For pure lead blasting fun, it's hard to beat my Ruger 9mm piston and magazine matching Ruger Carbine.

I don't have my own, except for a crossman bb gun.  I use my dad's guns.  A military .22 pistol, .22 bolt single shot rifle, .12 gauge semi-auto, and I think the big gun is a 330.

However, I might get into airsoft.  Then I will pick up Glock 19 and Steyr Aug replicas.

I have a WWII Japanese sniper rifle my Garndfather brought back when he was over there.  It's an Arisaka, but I can't identify specifically which one it is or what rounds would work in it.

I also have a MAK-90 and up until recently had a Taurus 9mm PT92.

Not trying to start anything here, but where exactly do you guys who carry go that you feel the need to bring along a weapon?  And does anyone really need an auto Glock?

I spent a few years in the Army and controlling an auto fire M-16 is difficult enough, I can't imagine trying to shoot an auto pistol.

I dont carry much but sometimes i do, i like to walk my dog at all hours of the morning and sometimes i bring the Glock along.

The auto Glock i could never own without being arrested, its just an upgrade id like to have as a novelty thing , if im going to own a Glock id like it to be all it can.

Like I said, just asking questions, not trying to start anything DD.  I have heard that story plenty in the past...  I have also heard plenty of stories about idiots carrying guns, getting them taken in a scuffle, and then getting killed with them.  Plenty of stories to go both ways I am sure.

Just curious what peoples reasons were, I carried one all the time in military when I had to carry classified information, I see nothing wrong with it.  I have also seen friends carry them in the civilian world into bars, etc., get drunk and pull them out to show them off.

But I do appreciate you getting defensive about it and being rude, good call.

I have also seen people drive cars in the civilian world to bars, etc., get drunk and drive home.

If my friends tried this I wouldn't let them drive.  At the time they think I'm rude for not letting them drive.  They too appreciate me getting defensive about their driving.

LOL, that is hilarious, getting defensive about drunk driving and about carrying a gun are EXACTLY the same.  What a great argument....

Carrying a gun for self protection when you are out on your own is not an issue I have with anyone.  There are just certain types that perhaps shouldn't be and they are carrying for the wrong reasons.

It's obvious by the fact that I own guns that I am not against them, but some responsibility should come as well, hopping up a gun to be all it can may not be the best idea and carrying isn't always a great idea, that was all I was trying to say and it's why I asked.

I have a Red Rider BB Gun with the compase in the stock and a thingy that shows the time.  ~ No Lie, its in the basement. And believe it or not I almost shot my eye out with the damn thing when I was a kid.  I shot a railroad tie and the bb bounced back and hit me right under my eye.

I also have a Winchester .22 It looks kindof like this.

I dont have any ammo for it.(afraid the wife might deside to shot me one day)   :P

Regular vanilla Happs guns, no recoil. (Starburst has them on sale ... C$70 per)

Monitor is a WG7193 (25").

They work great.

But ...... these guns are in my MultiJamma cabinet (still very much WiP) and are currently plugged into my Lethal Enforcers board, they are not for MAME.

When I lived in AZ as a cab driver I packed a pistol.
here in KY I do not need a pistol. never could shoot the thing well anyways. :-[

I have  a Jap sniper rifle. Darn thing ways a ton. kicks like a mule also
My grand fathers 20 gauge just plain will hurt you. I shot it 8 times last year and had a black and blue shoulder for a week.

I have decided I will only shoot this gun again unless some one is breaking in my house. If it hurts that bad on the back of the gun then the other side must be killer  ;D

At the time Texas passed the concealed weapons law, they also passed a law which forbid carrying handguns and concealed weapons in your car UNLESS you were transporting them to or from a place to fire them (you better be able to make a good argument to prove it).  In order to carry a gun in your car and not get arrested, you had to get a concealed weapons permit.  Although a purist could easily argue (and I would probably agree) that this is an infringement of 2nd Amendment rights, it does 2 good things:

1.)  Forces the permit holder to receive 7 hours of instruction on the legal ramifications of firing your weapon in self defense.  Any sensible person, once understanding the consequences, would think twice about showing or firing their weapon in public (both of which are illegal unless at a place where firearms discharge is allowed).   Anyone you know who is pulling their gun out a bar would be violating 2 laws in the state of Texas and quickly thrown in jail with their weapon impounded and the concealed weapons permit revoked.

2.)  Forces the person to pass a course of fire, thus demonstrating their ability to safely handle the firearm.

Concealed weapons permits are not for "Rednecks who want to go sh*t kicking and bottle blasting."  Permit holders are in fact responsible law abiding citizens.

I normally do not carry a weapon.  When I am traveling with my wife and two young children, I do carry a weapon as I feel their defense is well worth any risk.  Several posts above was a story about a church where numerous christians were murdered by a deranged sociopath with a gun.  That church is 36 miles from my home.  I passed that church the same day coming home from my birthday party with my family.  I have often thought that if only 1 person in that church had been carrying a concealed weapon, then several good people would have lived and only that one SOB would have died.

My 2 cents.

That's the horror of every parent.  You have a gun to protect the kids and they end up killing themselves with it.  Better to err on the side of not having the gun.

As for your reason to carry one while you travel, sounds like a good one to me, I would probably do the same, however my wife happened to watch 20/20 the one f'in night they had a show on how stupid kids are with guns even after receiving safety training on what to do if they found a gun, and my pistol was required to leave the premises.  It wasn't enough that I had a trigger lock and a safe, and to avoid an eternity of arguments I gave in.

Given that choice, I'd have kept the pistol and sold the wife. ;D

im, sorry. why on earth would you think a glock is something to collect? just a lump of plastic. hardly very interesting. you obviously have one, but that makes you a gun collector as much as im a car collector because i have a car!

for me, if i were to collect id love something with some history. guns from world war I or II for instance. i saw an example of the first anti tank rifle made from WWI in a museum yesterday. my god, the breech was about the diameter of a soft drink can! im guessing only the big lads would be using those...

and daywayne mentioned black powder. now thats something id love to get into. having a modern reproduction of something the pioneers used would be a blast. literally (",). i had a friend who was a gun fanatic and he showed me a catalogue. you can even get blackpowder 6 shooters! but if you dont grease everything properly you risk firing all 6 chambers at once which wouldnt be pleasant  :o, so i think if i ever do it, id get a muzzle loading rifle, percussion or flint just for the fun of it (",) (",)

black powder pistols are a different type gun.
the powder for them is not as EZ to find. also if I was to get one I have been told to make sure there is a steel rod going along side of the barrel.

could be BS not sure. I want one for deer hunting. only because the first bullet will  50% of the time not go off, only cap, ( morning dew)
two things I have done to fix this is cut a cross in a tennis ball put that over the nipple. ( keeps the dew out of the powder )
or first thing put a few grams of powder in the nipple ( hotter fire)

black powder is a very cheep way to plink. guns can be found for $100.00
every day here. not the new in-line. ( have one it was a gift) I prefer the flint locks

So, in summary - Glocks are more like a GMC Suburban SUV, whereas a model 1911 is more like a 1967 Camaro.
not a good example- who here wouldn't rather have a '67 camaro  ;D

My wife's duty weapon is a Glock, and I bought her a Taurus PT-140 40 S&W compact for a backup.

Right now I have a Taurus PT99AF 9mm, Smith & Wesson SW99 Compact in 40 S&W, a Marlin model 60 .22 LR, and a Bushmaster XM15 (AR-15) in 5.56mm NATO.

I eventually want to pick up a SPAS 12, and maybe a couple of spare upper receivers for the Bushmaster.
Side Arms, Slam Dunk, Xybots, Arachnid Galaxy darts, Pac Man Plus, Dr. Who, Gauntlet, Centipede cocktail, Hyperball, Tempest, Star Wars, Xevious, Super Hang On, S.T.U.N. Runner, Galaga, Space Duel.

Desert Eagle .357 pistol, a Browning .22 and a slew of misc long guns.  They are all fun to go out plinking with but the Eagle is just a blast to shoot.  I have a Mosin Nagant, an old Russian military rifle, that will pound your shoulder into dust.
