Help with Mame 32 0.95
« on: April 11, 2005, 08:06:57 pm »
I just downloaded it and installed it, but for some reason whenever I try to play a Rom it shows the loading bar, and when it's done loading instead of playing the Rom it simply goes back to the Mame 32 interface. Anyone got any ideas?

Where did you download it from?  Any particular ROM?  Have you tried something simple, like Pac-Man?

I downloaded it from File Planet. I can't get anything to work with it. It always reverts back to the Mame32 interface once the Rom is done loading.

That is odd.  Try redownloading.  Even better, try vanilla Mame from the command line.

You either have a bad ROM set or no ROM set. Don't let the  status bar fool you. If you have a bad or missing set, the bar will move as usual but the game won't play.

Get CLRMAME PRO and audit your set. Seriously.

I am going to make a guess here:

Your MAME version has recently been upgraded from an old version and you are trying to play your favorites again using the same ROMs from said old version. ROMs update just like MAME does. Tragic but true. :)

Either use CLRMAME to fix your set or hit Usenet to get a new set.

Good luck!

Using ClrMame to audit is a good idea, but Mame32 *will* report errors with ROMsets.  It'll have a little window with the error (whatever it may be) with an 'OK' button.  It won't just dump him back to the main window.

You probably didnt make mame recognize the roms properly , specify where the roms are to be found on your pc on the directory setting in mame, then audit all games.

I did. Mame is treating the roms like they're all just fine.  During the audits they all register fine, and I did set it up to know where the directory is. Everything is working fine, except for the fact that it instantly goes back to Mame32 instead of playing the Rom once the rom is done loading. I could always just install the older version again, but I'd really like to get the newer version to work.

Uhoh, MameWah started doing the same thing. Command line Mame still works fine, but I gotta figure out what's causing the front ends to not work!

I uninstalled .95 of Mame32 and put .81 back on there. It's working again, but unfortuantely Mamewah is still out of commission. Whenever I attempt to run a ROM in Mamewah, it shows the loading screen, but THEN a command prompt window appears in front of it, and shows the typical routine if I was running Mame from a command prompt. But instead of playing the rom, it just goes right back to my Mamewah game list like nothing happened. Help!

Good gravy... What's even stanger than the problem might be the solution. I had a bizzare idea, and I decided to test it. All this time I had been trying to load the Roms from the rom folder that was in my Mame 32 folder, D:\Mame32\Roms, and the command line Mame was being loaded from the Mame folder, D:\Mame\Mame.exe. This must have been causing some kind of conflict. I copied the zipped up Mortal Kombat 2 into the Roms folder in D:\Mame, and changed the ini file for Mamewah to load roms from D:\Mame\Roms. And it worked. Well, I'll figure the rest out tomarrow. I need sleep and my parents will kill me if they catch me up this late. ;D
