USB power while PC is off

Nah theres no problem with it.  Just get a simple USB cable (I had one that I accidently kept from a returned MP3 player) and cut off the end that DOES NOT connect to the computer :P  Strip down the wires.  Use the RED and BLACK wires to power the LED (might need a resistor if you don't get 5v LEDs) and tape off the other ones to prevent problems.  Search around modding websites for USB BENDLIGHT for an example.  People basically attach a clothes hanger to it for resistance and TADA!  A $2 bendlight!  If you need one done for you (which I can't possibly see) Ill make one for shipping costs and some money for the LED and USB cable.  You're better off making your own though...just don't get your USB cable from Futureshop :P

Thx for the prompt reply. I'll probably go that route, spliting off of the usb cable going to my Happs trackball. Slowly the pieces are coming together.

No problem...welcome to BYOAC :)

I had the same issue, i ended removing the trackball led from the ipaq and taking 2 wires and the power led cable for a case from an old computer case to the motherboard, and connecting that to the trackball led.  now the trackball led only lights when i have power to the pc, and since there was no need to see a power light on the case, it all worked out well

You should check voltages though because those LEDs may not have enough power for yours to replace them.  I just set my motherboards to not supply power when USB is off, usually there is a BIOS setting, but on my new computer (3 months old) theres a jumper on the board itself.
