Issues w/ non-mame emu's & Lazarus
« on: October 31, 2002, 02:13:28 pm »
First, I would like to say that the more I use Lazarus, the more impressed I become.  I isn't as easy to work with as some other FE's, but I really like the results!  I have two issues as I'm setting up my machine that I can't seem to figure out.

1.  EMU snapshots.  I have created snapshots for each game for my Atari 2600 emulator.  The name of the .png file is the same as the .bin rom file.  When I originally had this machine setup in DOS, GameLauncher used the .png fine so I know the .png files are name and saved correctly.  When in Lazarus, and I switch to my Atari 2600 list none of the snapshots show up.  I have added the path ("c:\emulator\atari260\snap\") in the "additional artwork" section of the dirs.ini.  I even rescanned for roms, but that didn't help.  I spoke with HC in chat once and he looked at my dirs.ini and said it should be fine.  I'm at work now, but can post later if people want to see it.  I tried loading a .png in Photoshop and resaving it...didn't work.  Tried reducing the size in half (from 640x??? to 320x???)...didn't work.  Reduced size in half again (from 320x??? to 160x???)...didn't work.  What's really weird as that the screenshots work for Mame, so it isn't a plug-in problem.  I'm really at a loss.  Any ideas?

2.  To launch my Atari 2600 emulator correctly, I used the cmd wrapper 2.0 from the Laz website.  I still had issues even with the cmd wrapper.  I set the LaunchMode in Lazarus.ini to 1 and now it works great.  My issue is that now I see the DOS window launching games when I launch a mame game.  Is there a way to set the LaunchMode to 1 only for a particular wrapper?  Would the next version of Lazarus handle this better?

Thanks for all your help so far.  I am really happy with my results so far, I just have a few more issues that I really need some help with.  Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

these actually aren't issues

i'm not sure if it's on the homepage yet (i'm confused as to the latest build).... but the command line wrapper also has a launchstyle feature.....

what you do is make it non-hidden and make the main lazarus window hidden...

so what happens is lazarus hides the first window, which is the dummy window that the wrapper creates and you are good.  At least in theory.

Ok, I got my first user problem fixed.  I now have my screenshots showing up like they are supposed to.  Chair to keyboard interface problem.

I don't understand how to get the LaunchStyle to work with the wrapper.  I put the "LaunchStyle=1" in the lconfig.ini and it didn't help.  I read every comment and piece of documentation on the website didn't see anything to help me.  I think my problem is with the launchstyle...what happens is when I select a game, the screen goes black.  I hit Alt-Tab and switch to the launched emulator.  Then everything works fine.  What am I missing to get this to work?  I set the "LaunchStyle=" to both 0 and 1 in the lazarus.ini and neither helped (when using the wrapper).

HC, when/if I get this working, are you still interested in peoples dir.ini, lconfig.ini, etc.?  I would be happy to submit mine for others' use when/if I get it working.

Shameless bump.

Seriously, does anyone have any ideas how to get this emulator to work correctly with the wrapper?  I'm sure it's something I have configured, but from reading the archives and the docs, I just can't figure it out.  Please help.

Thanks in advance.  Brian
