ClrMAmePro reports name errors
« on: March 07, 2005, 02:22:43 am »
I have a set of 0.92 that I decided to check with XlrMamePro 3.63a even though it supposedly already was.

Everything appears to check out OK except that I get

Wrong Named Sets:         81
Wrong DiskImageName Case: 1
Unneeded Files/Folders:   3

Should I let ClrMamePro rename the roms? they have similar names for example it tells me that bayrouta.zip should be called bayroute.zip.

Make SURE you are using a Datfile from 0.92 - either generate your own in Clrmamepro from your Mame 0.92 exe or download off the web.

If so, then Clrmamepro will be correct, and I suggest you rename. You can always rename back - I suggest you have the "keep backup" option ticked.

I always generate the file from the mame executable, so it shoud be correct. I'll double check that I didn't mess up and use the old 0.90 just in case.

In virtually every mame update I have done so far certain roms have their names changed. Why? I have no idea. But I've never had a problem yet using clrmame pro when doing updates. I just tick all the repair boxes & let it do its stuff

Sometimes ROMs are named from the labels on the EPROMs, sometimes they're named for what they do.  They all used to be named on the 8.3 convention, but since that isn't used anymore ROMs are being named exactly what was on the label, instead of a abbveviated version (12345678.910 changes to 12345678910)

Also names are sometimes changed as more info is discovered or a more recent version dumped. Often the most recent version of a game is given the "full" romname and then previouis versions are renamed to be alternates.

also, I think Aaron Giles renamed a lot of sega drivers recently?

This is not the case here though. the names are similar, like (I'm making it up) "judom4i" should be called "judom4p", that type of misnaming. The orifinal rom set was supposed to be 0.92 checked with ClrMame. Oh well, I'll let ClrMamePro fix the set and make sure I have a backup just in case.
