If you have side art that is rough (scratched, torn, faded, etc)... please take detailed pics for me with lots of megapixels.

Exactly, I rest my case, its perfect.  When I said it's destroyed, I meant that the origional game was destroyed, the cabinet itself is in great condition, maybe a few small things to change.  (MAME it)

It will be hard to repair, so it comes down to this:

Do you like Moon Patrol THAT much?

If you answer yes, then go for it, give it all you got and save this cabinet.  If you answer no, then throw a computer in there and you can do whatever you want with it.  Alot of people buy used cabinets to MAME them, so its up to you.  I would still MAME it.

That game is not Moon Patrol anymore.  Unless you really, really want a dedicated M.P., forget about it.

In a perfect world, we could save every cab we find.  Guess what kind of world this ain't.

Do whatever you want with it.

at the very least get some stripper and see what's under the paint.  I forget what stripper is used most around here... someone help me out... I think it was a 3m product.   Anyway, it only takes of the first layer of paint and is very good from what I've seen on these boards.

The moon patrol art may be in decent shape.  Even if you want to MAME it then, it'd look awesome with some MP art :)

I agree with pointdablame 100%

MP artwork is AWESOME (IMO) so you might as well give it a shot to see if it's under there.

I now regret not trying to save my MP artwork.  I would try it.  You *will* have to likely paint over it to get it 100%.  Easiest way would be to make stencils when you can see the whole thing.

Im going to try to get that back paint off and see how bad the whole side looks , ether way im going to have to find some new side art if i bring it back 100%
All ive seen so far is a
new cpo but thats it , its not going to easy to find what i would need,so thats how im going to decide if i could gather everything i need online with out buying it yet just to see what parts i would have, then maybe i would restore it , also ive seen many tempest cabs on here and tron and a few others but no mp im not sure if mp is more rare or less wanted  -tommy

Yep, it was sold before I started.  :(

My art was not perfect, but it looked really good anyway.  You need stencils and I don't know if anyone makes 'em.  The CPO you can get from www.arcadeshop.com.  That is the one I used, very nice.

Suggestion, get the sides stripped and cleaned (except the MP art of course) and take a fresh look.  You may be able to touch up the paint, clearcoat, and go.

I have the correct paint color codes somewhere around here.

Also, if you have a bit of coin to drop on the project then go with one of arcadeshops Multiwilliams JAMMA boards. They have Moon Patrol on them, and I promise you it will turn a game you might eventually get tired of into one you will keep for a lifetime. My MW gets a TON of play.

Agreed.  I setup the Omega Mame with a MW CP layout and could not be happier.  It really is a good layout for alot of games.

I have seen two Moon Patrols at auction over the years. A minty fresh cocktail for $200 (I was the $175 bidder) and an upright for $350ish.

That doesn't mean they are rare, certain games just don't turn up at the auctions much. Asteroids and Dragon's Lair are super common, yet I rarely see either one at auction.

Thanks for that link daniel , but as you can see from this pic , my original art is placed diferently then his work , compare the patrol in both, it is the other side but it seems not right and the color seems off also

We can't compare because the only picture we have of yours is of the opposite side as the picture on his side.

hey, its coming along GREAT!

what are you using to get the paint off?  I tried the 3m safest stripper... but I never got past a layer of paint or two...  And gave up... I figured I would buy some new sideart at some point or just deal with black... but getting 1/2 way was making it look super splotchy without any returns on investments...
