I've noticed (although it's newer than the replacement date) the power cord that came with my green Halo XBOX is a bit smaller than the original and is loose... like when you move the console, it would fall out!

Luckily, I have about 600 replacement cords laying around the house... but that's just odd.

While they did not say how much the replacement program would cost the company, other than characterizing it as a "significant investment."

come on!! you know full well they are buying these things in bulk from china for probobly .40 cents apiece.
this whole fiasco including advertising, shipping and handling will probobly total about 20k..
since when is 20k a SIGNIFIGANT investment for microsoft?
is that the kind of commitment i can expect when microsft says they are making signifigant investment twords thwarting security holes in its browser technology? 20k?
please...nothing makes me laugh harder than one of the richest companies in the wold crying poor mouth over something so insignifigant..

Enjoying the fruits of technological obsolescence one game at a time...

Sweet!  I buy broken xboxes and fix them and I almost never get power cables with them, so I have 4 working systems right now and only one power cable.  I have at least 5 serial numbers eligible, so I'm going to get me some free cables!

Just checked my SN with MS and I'll be getting a replacement cable sometime in the near future.

Thanks Rchadd for posting this, I'd rather not have my XBOX or even worse, all the rest of the stuff in my home get ruined!

Apparently the household limit is 3 replacement cords.

I like the question...

"Is your XBOX power cable safe?"

"Well.. pretty safe. Unless the cat decides to eat it."

Apparently the power cable is 100% safe and has always been, it's the power supply inside the xbox that's the problem.  Of course MS isn't going to just come out and say that is the case but it's pretty obvious by looking at the new replacement cord that I just got.

It's a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter)!  Basically what MS is thinking is if something goes wrong with your xbox's power supply the GFCI will kick in before any damage to your property and or self.  Hardly what I would call a "fix" but I guess it's better than nothing and a heck of alot cheaper than recalling 14 milliong xbox's for repairs!

BTW, here's a pic of the new power cord and a picture of the REAL problem, broken solder joints!
