Jakko = Just Another Knievel Knock off.
Started my first Mame Cabinet from scratch. Carpentry began yesterday. here is my weekend's progress

Plans include 22 inch LCD kneivel CPT. (This is a Woody/ArcadeMania Clone.) The interior support designs are my own. knievel provided the dimensions. Can't work on it for the next couple weeks as I'll be real buzy.

For those considering building a woody, I highly recommend buying one of Knievel's Control Panel Tops. At first I was like wow that's a little expensive, but knievel has given me so much information to make this happen (dimensions, suppliers, part-numbers,help with graphics, joystick advice and more) Consider half of the cost a consulting fee and its well worth it. Knievel has saved me at least 10 hrs of research.

I thought his pricing was an absolute bargain for the quality of work and the amazing amount of support you get from the guy. I sometimes wonder if "knievel" is really a group of arcade building super geniuses that speak with one voice.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support.

Building the CP tops for people was never my idea, and it was never to be a money-maker. I did it for a few people initially to help them out after being asked to do so and it just escalated. Every time someone posts a project showing one there is always a surge of interest and I do another batch, weather/time permitting.

As I said they are not a money-maker, I charge what I need to to cover my materials and time. That's why I don't advertise..other than a somewhat unseen page on my website.

Now back to JAKKO...

ok, I just finalized my plans for the audio. This may be a bit controversial but I just bench tested it and it will work perfectly.

First I'm using a Hacked PC Power Supply to power this 25Watt X2 equalizer amplifier.

The key I think to utilizing a PC power supply is to stay very modest with the power output. Staying away from mosfet amplifiers will keep the amperage minimal. This amp uses a 4 AMP fuse so you know it's not going to want more than the PC Power supply can put out. I also plan to use some 12V Neon so another reason for the Power Supply. I also like having the equalizer so I have some control over how it sounds. Also I feel if your going to make a riduculously loud system you can add Subwoofers using an amp like this.

OK buzy Weekend. Here's your progress Pics. First few show my idea for LCD mounting using Bolt action locks. (works good!) Then wiring progress (All finished) And CP top.

More progress. Lesson learned on paint. Use a foam roller!! Knapp roller left little hairs in the paint! Had to sand and re-paint. Quite happy now. Krylon Satin Black Walmart $7.57/qt 2 quarts. White Krylon primer. The hole in the front is for a blue neon ring and .... yet to be determined. Perhaps vinyl lettering on Mirror.

Wow - it's coming along very nicely. I really like the Knievel CP layout and I'm thinking about using it for my next cab that I'm going to build for my brother-in-law (which will actually be a real, full-sized, standard, 2 player, MAME cab).

Looks great! Nice way to incorporate the neon ring.

A good trick for Knapp rollers is to wrap them in masking tape beforehand, then rip the tape off.
That gets rid of all the loose stuff.

help! Almost done! Screwed up the wiring of my KeywizMax then changed some global control settings inside a game. Now I need to reset it as I have corrected the wiring. How do I reset the Global Controls? Mame32

figured it out. Delete the individual config files.

My wife likes the machine now that it's working. We broke it in by playing 97 levels of Bubble Bobble Together!

Well were wrapping it up now. My glass order was delayed or it would be done now. Here are the progress pics.

Interupted one wire of the power to the Power Strip and ran through a household switch. Powers off everything. Everything turns on except the PC which comes on with any button.

I also added pinball buttons! I'm really happy with the results except my wife keeps beating me at all the games

(esp the fighting games). But, I'm a lover not a fighter!

Looks great! Are you going with tinted glass? If not I suggest a black posterboard bezel with a cut-out for just the screen. Finishes it off really nice.

And if you spray the posterboard black you can get a deeper black.

Yes I'm using 1/8 inch tempered greylite. I was planning on painting the back of the glass black to cover the outer edges. The 22' monitor looks and works perfectly with Default Mame Settings despite it's wide screen. Horizontal games are awesome and vertical games only use as much of the screen as they need and leave the rest black. The monitor has a silver band around the outer edge so I will likely need to do something as the greylite is not too dark. The posterboard sounds like a good idea so I'll probabbly do that instead. My total cost for the build is fast approaching $1000 not including the donated P4 2800 PC. Highly recommend my monitor for this type of project. $279.00 at frys.com. http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5065285?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG It is a perfect width. and has versa mounting bolts. The base comes off easily and it powers on automatically when power and signal are present.
