having trouble setting up 3D arcade fe
« on: January 30, 2005, 04:06:53 am »
I'm trying to get my console emulators to work with 3Darcade, as well as some PC games and/or Batch files. i want to change the skin to the updated one with all the consoles in it but am not sure i understand how to do this even after reading the help txt.
also when i created a new emu and called it snes and fixed all the directories it still didnt show up in the list of selectable consoles.

and what is this left and right selection thing, what is the difference??? every time in the fe i hit the left arrow key or the right arrow key to select one it just changes the selection.
this fe looks very cool, and i am dying to set it up but so far its been giving me the biggest head ache (though not literally lol) even after lookeing over the sites quick start quide....man i seen ancient alchemical scripts that were easyer to undertand than that help file...i think i came away more confused :p
any help would be great

one other thing is it possible to have it start up witha different skin for the ss selector or whatever its called?
and how exactly do you config a batch file/pc game as the pc game option in the game edit thingy was exactly the same as all te other emu's ..so what should i be filling out in it?

just ignore the left, right  gamelist thing for now...something for  a bit more advanced users ;)

when you add a new emulator cfg it does not show up in the menu hierarchy. for the fe its just information what to do when it encounters a game that uses that emulator cfg.

I the normal steps to add a new console would be:

1.  first to first make a new emulator cfg in field 2 of the list manager

2.  then in field 3 create a new gamlelist from folder contents that uses the emulator cfg made in step 1

3. add the gamelist to the console selectionset.

step 3 details:

-Click in the selset field of the list manager on the console games selset...choose edit.
-Click anywhere in the field with gamelists and choose add a new gamelist pair.
-Add the gamelist.
-Click on the new gamelist pair and choose edit left gamelist.
-Click on the skinset field and choose from the dialog the skin for this console.
-Click on the arcade field and choose from the dialog the "3darcade_ast_console_hor_pricewheel" arcade cfg.

II for how to launch pc games see:

III yes...select a different skin in section 4 of the general cfg menu (or edit cfg\fe.cfg directl).

Edit : i forgot to say THANK YOU so much for that in depth walk through, that type of guided "hold-your-hand" tute is what i need atm lol  :P

well that has helped a bit  :)
i'm going to have to try ita  few times as i just went throuh and did what you said and it didnt work....
i am creating a new emu, calling it snes, pointig it towards the emu folder, rom folder, and emu exe (snap folder too)
then i created a new list calling it snes as well and chose fesnes.cfg and then pointed it to my snes rom folder
then in console ss sets i chose edit and added a new on called super nintendo and snes for short....and chose the snes hor skin and changed the arcade skin to consol hor...is this right so far?

but i am still not seeing anything different in the fe. i know there must be something i'm overlooking.
also is it possible to get it to boot up with a different looking selection set, or trim some of the stuff out of the selset? like "demo" for eg.

wooo progress

ok i finaly got it to show up the list  ;D but its not showing my snapshots which is a bit of  a drag...
and atm its not actually launching the games its just starting the emu. but i'm guessing thats because of some mistake on my part.
so its working..but i need to get it looking better casue atm it look very ho hum.

OK EDIT:

well i have now managed to add Snes and Genesis, (the only two i've tried adding so so far so good. not sure what i'm doing diferently but whatever it is its working :)
But all is not peachy in this land of fe madness, while i have managed to get snes and genesis i cant get the games to load. they show up, but none load. te emu starts up but doesnt have a rom loaded in it..this may have something to do with comand line settings?? but i am a noob there too and wouldnt know where to start.
also is there anyway to get the default display of game name to default to list type (where they are all text)?
