seriously, what were han and leia so mad at Lando for, as if anyone on cloud city at the time could even do anything to vader. hes fvckin sitting at a dinner table and they try to shoot him and he just blocks it. they prolly couldve killed the stormtroopers, but boba and vader would own them

well Vader knew they were going there cause Boba saw them fly out of the garbage. So he shows up, takes over the place and then they arrive unknowingly into an ambush. What was Lando supposed to do? Vader could probably kill every person in that city if they all attacked him

yes.... Vader knew because of Boba Fett.  But then Vader confronted Lando and said that if Lando didn't give them up, he would try to destroy Cloud City.

Lando had to choose between Han and all the people on Cloud City....

That's how I remember it anyway.... my Star Wars phase ended quite a while ago.

Yeah, Vader arrived just before Han and Leia. Lando the homeboy had no choice.

He redeems himself in ROTJ though.....

i just watched empire on DVD if youre wondering where this came from...

I just found it so odd that they would be mad at Lando, like he set them up on purpose or something. It was pretty obvious he couldnt do anything about it if he wanted to

I'm starting to think Lucas builds one major event for each movie in the saga... then attempts (poorly) to fill in the gaps with storyline...

Ep 1 had the Pod race.. the rest was filler...
Ep 2 had Yoda vs Dooku... rest was filler
Ep 3 WILL have Obiwan vs Anakin.... I suspect filler, altho it's supposed to start off with a big bang from what I hear...
Ep 4 had the Death Star battle..
Ep 5 had Vader vs Luke...
Ep 6 had the midget wookies  :P

Too much filler, not enough real story and action....

Too bad Michael J Fox has Parkinsons.....  he's still a great actor, but he'll never get the roles he used to.

I just watched BTTF last night and loved every minute of it.  And I agree.... they don't make movies like that anymore....

The reason why the 'original' Star Wars movies are so much better than the McPrequels, is because Lucas didn't actually write them (mostly).  ;D

And Yoda vs Dooku was absolutely terrible, going against everything Yoda makes a big deal about in Empire. See Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for how that fight really should have gone, not Gummy Bears Gone Wild!  >:(

FYI: Han & Leia were annoyed that Lando *lied* to them, thus they let their guard down. If Lando had simply let Vader kill him then they probably would have been more on their guard when they came to cloud city. That's not to say they would have escaped, but ask yourself why Vader didn't have the Falcon impounded on the Executor, or at least *not* repaired the hyperdrive if you are looking for a bigger plot hole... It's not like Lobot couldn't have evacuated cloud city instead if Vader actually did attack.

nothing will ever touch the first movie for quality effects i reckon. i remember queueing around several corners of the local cinema (only one screen at that time) to see star wars  :) the last three filmed are as lame as you say. mostly filler for about ten minutes of plot and/or action. the pod race was fantastic for instance. but of course i still watch them as they make it to the cinema like the sucker i am...

They were pissed at Lando because he welcomed them into Cloud City without giving them any indication that anything was wrong.  As a politician, he could have used an old gambling reference to tip Han off, giving them a chance to escape, and the played dumb if Vader confronted him about it.  As it was, he maneuvered them into an unescapable situation.

i wish they would make movies about after return of the jedi, but seeing how lucas in his old age seems to have lost all his skills , they would probably turn out crappy. i think the miniseries on cartoon network was starting to get really good toward the end, something like that extending past ROTJ would be badass

After Han was imprisoned. Even after he helped rescue him from Jabba, the psychogical damage was already inflicted.  Not to mention the added cost of time and materials to free him. Remember, there was a rebellion going on... rescuing a smuggler was not a top priority ::)

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think Han should've just dropped Lando at Sarlaac's Pit.  As it was he was far too forgiving.

Also, I am just crazy about Natalie Portman. She makes Leia look like something Chewie would cough up.

Lastly - has anyone ever thought of the need for "mining gases"?  Pretty lame if you ask me.

Hydrogen doesn't grow on trees (yet odly, oxygen does). In the future (after we've invaded all of the middle-east and consumed all their oil) we may begin mining asteroids and moons for various gases. I've read somewhere that we only have enough helium for 20 more years.

Which is why we need to support nuclear fusion! How else will we build Zepplins in the 23rd Century? :D

And FYI the gas mined from Bespin was tibanna gas, which is a rare gas used in the production of the more advanced hyper-drive reactors.  8)

Natalie Portman is pretty okay, but Carrie Fisher in ROTJ was HOT.

Carrie Fisher was hot mainly because she wore that skimpy bikini outfit.

Now if George Lucas could get Natalie Portman into a similar outfit for Return of the Sith then he will have totally redeemed himself at least in my eyes.  :)

Another thing that irritates me about The Empire Strikes Back is when they land on that asteriod and leave the spaceship!

Two problems -

First of all the asteriod would have had very low gravity due to its size, but they walk around normally.

Secondly, they have token face masks but no proper spacesuits. The asteroid probably wouldn't have had any atmosphere because of the low gravity so how do they deal with the low temperature and pressure?

And what was the worm creature living on? There appeared to be a distinct lack of vegetation or other animals on the asteroid!
