Game Elements adapter compatibility
« on: February 01, 2005, 04:11:09 pm »
For a while I've been using the Game Elements PS to XBOX/GameCube adapter. With the variety of PS controllers I have, I still haven't been able to get the GameCube to work with anything but Sony pads. Has anyone had any luck with third party pads? I need one to hack for an arcade stick and would like to find a pad that works with all the systems and the adapter I already have.

Hack a "PSOne" dual shock pad.  That is the best compatibility around, and gamestop still has em for $5 used.  I recommend the H-Series, but if you can find an A-Series with the ribbon connector, thats even easier to hack (ala SpiffyShoe's instructions).

I forget which GameCube adapter I bought, but its super cheap and really small...and works fine with the PSOne pad (which uses digital buttons).

SpiffyShoe's tutorial is one of those sites that I'm wondering why I've never found before. I get compatibility and I don't have to use my pitiful soldering skills. I'd always heard that hacking Sony pads is damn near impossible without damaging the board, but this is a really easy solution. I just wish it would let me tie into L3 and R3.

Coincidentally, my old dual shock controllers that are floating around are both model# SCPH-1200 A. I bought these right after Dual Shocks hit the market. I actually started getting sentimental and debating if I really want to take them apart. Then again, maybe they can get a new lease on life as a big frickin' joystick.

BTW, the site with the tutorial is:

There's been a long-running thread on Shoryuken.com's boards about it.

Thanks Dave_K.!!!
