XBox Shooting games
« on: January 19, 2005, 08:10:18 am »
I used to be big fan of PS1 shooting games such as Time Crisis and Point Blank. The GunCon was excellent.

I havent seen many shooting games or decent quality guns for the xbox?

anyone have any recommendations?

I hope namco release Time Crisis/Point blank on xbox.

There is only 3 lightgun shooters native to Xbox.

House of The Dead 3 (HoTD 2 is an unlockable)
Starsky & Hutch
Silent Scope Complete

HoTD 3 is excellent as is HoTD 2

Starsky & Hutch is some great fun, but is best with 2 players, so one can do the driving for the other. (It is great single player, if you also have a steering wheel, as it is easy to drive and shoot at the same time that way)

Silent Scope Complete is total garbage. I love the Silent Scope games, but this console version is just plain broke. They made it so that, to use a lightgun,  the brightness has to be set so high it is actually painful to look at. :(

If your Xbox is modded, there are lots of other lightgun games playable in emulators. NES, SNES, & MAME

Yep

Unfortunately the XBox can't handle any chd games though, so we are basically talking only the older stuff, but stuff like Point Blank and the like work good.

It's arcade perfect if you buy the Pelican Modular Silent Scope rifle. It switches from sniper rifle to shotgun, kind of like the old Sega Menacer.  8)

No it's not.

I do have that gun. I have tried on several different Xboxes, on several different TV's, and have heard enough collaborating accounts, to tell me that the game is just plain broke.

That is a pic of some of my controllers. I have tried the game with both the Pelican Light Rifle, and with the MadCatz blaster. I have also tried with a friends light gun, but can not recall the brand.

No console beats the Saturn for light gun games.

just tried playing House of the Dead 3 - it was pretty good fun a true arcade experience

how do you unlock HOTD2?

I had a bit of trouble calibrating the light gun

shooting the calibration target in the centre of the screen was easy

however hitting the target at top left of the screen was difficult - every time i aimed at the target it dissappeared! so ended up shooting as close to the target without it disappearing.

seems calibration is ok(ish) but not 100% accurate as i would like.

To unlock HoTD2, you just have to beat HoTD3.

No Virtua Cop available (though 3 runs on Sega's Xbox based system in the arcades, and would make a great port, but I wouldn't count on it :( )

Other emulated games, are Point Blank in MAME, though it doesn't have any sound. Zero Point 1&2 both work excellently, and do have sound though (These games are pretty much identical to Point Blank).

I don't what all was available on SNES, but the emu is compatible with light guns.

NES had Duck Hunt, as well as several other fun shooters. There is a platformer game where you use the gun advance through the level. It is some great fun, but for some reason my mind just went completely blank trying to remember the name.

The Sega Master System emu also has light gun support, but again I don't know what light gun games were available.
