Bezels in Mamewah
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:26:27 pm »
This may be a dumb  question but here goes ...  ???

I recently switched my FE from arcade32fx to Mamewah.  In FX I had no problem playing games without the extra bezel artwork.  In mamewah I have had problems setting up the ini file to remove the bezels.  Any help would be appreciated 'cause evertime I try to change something I inevitably mess it up and ultimately end up having to reinstall the FE. (which is a royal pain in the arse if you want to have a bunch of custom games lists)  Also, is it possible to have some games come up with the extra bezel artwork and others without?  If not, is there a FE out there that has this feature?  I'm not familiar with all of them so any comments would be helpful

The displaying of the Artwork (bezels and such) while the game is playing is a function of MAME, not the front end. The settings are handled in the mame.ini file in the mame folder. If you want  game specific settings you need to use a game specific ini file placed in the ini folder in mame.

Thanks for the info ;D

When I used 32fx there was a menu that controlled this function so it seemed like it was a FE thing.  I am happy to hear that I will be able to use any FE I want for my cab 'cause this is one feature I really wanted.

You may also want to try artwork_crop, which only shows the part of the bezel that would be included in the main display.  Thus, it pretty much just fills in the side portions on vertical games, or parts of the bezel that may overhang the screen like in Asteroids.

Asteroids, in fact, is a great example.  Try it normally, with artwork_crop, with bezels disabled, and with artwork disabled and see which of the four you like best.
