I just finished reading this at both Gamespot and IGN and just thought this is total BS.  It's a chickens**t tactic to force everyone to buy only your game if you want real players and teams.  I'll wait out the five years.

I absolutely hate this idea.  Granted - I don't play sports games, but the theory makes Luxury mad!

What can I say.  I hate EA.  Besides Burnout 3 which I bought this year, the last EA game I bought was....ummm....well I guess Burnout 3 is it.  And I've been gaming for 20 years now mind you.

Plus with all the EA employees suing them about overtime, and their president saying "We take pride that we can create a game in half the time as other studios" (hmm, i wonder why?).  Work your employees into the ground making inferior games, which for some reason always make huge profits, and you end up on my "big fat meany" list.  This NFL deal doesn't help them get off of it either.

ea has become the microsoft of the console world (sort of)... if we don't stop them now... there won't be anything we can do later on... lets all stop buying their product... then again... with soccer moms buying the sims left and right, that's kind of hard

boycott?

If they combined the presentation and micro-management from the ESPN NFL 2k5 game with the gameplay of Madden.  I have no problem with EA owning the soul rights.  As that'll be the BEST football ever.

Boycott, hmm, having purchase every Madden since the Sega Genesis days, I hardly think I'll boycott the series... that is unless they do the Madden series like they did to the NHL series. As the NHL series used to be the best out there... now it just sucks.

Competition is what breeds innovation.  Now EA will have no competition, so I would not hope for too much innovation :-\  Look what Sega did with it's exclusive rights to Daytona.  Nothing inspirational.

The only good thing out of this is that now I stand a shot at getting an arena football game finally.  Sega's got a good engine, why not put it to good use?  We'll also probably see some bizarro sports titles for a few years...

yeah now that i think about it they were =P kind of against this topics opinion, but theyre pretty much the only sports games i play anyway i dont really care about NFL liscensing and whatnot.

those games were so awesome though, i liked the hockey one the best. i would usually end up winning by killing the entire other team first

well i have both and madden and all the ea games are so much better.  the price point is the only reason i bought the 2k5 games this year.  sega sucks, always has.

If Sega has "always sucked" then why buy the games?  Pricing couldn't have really been the reason, because since you've known that they've "always sucked" you had to have known these games, too, would suck.  Why keep on buying games from a company that's "always sucked?"

Out of curiosity, what's made them "always suck?"

well i guess i should have been more specific in my "always sucked" statement.  sega as a whole sucks.  is that based on personal opinion?  somewhat.  but where are the sega consoles?  where is the 2k series?  where are the sega handhelds?  "but the dreamcast rocked!"  okay, so where is the dreamcast on store shelves?  obviously it only rocked to about 2% of the world because its not "rocking" any more.

example....my mom bought me a 3DO console several years back.  that system was awesome, great graphics, etc....but....it sucked.

anyway, im getting off the subject....the 2k games werent all they were hyped up to be.  i bought nba 2k3 back when it came out because all the reviews said it was awesome, well it was really slow and the gameplay blew really hard.  so im thinking, well its just this game.  i played some of the other games like nfl 2k and nba 2k4, and they were both really slow and jerky.  most of the 2k games had great graphics and presentation but the gameplay came no where near the EA series games.  the only reason im dissappointed that the nfl 2k games wont be made anymore, is because EA wont have to try hard.  theres no red headed step child to step and on every year.

if sega does not "suck" then where are they now?  they obviously sucked some where down the line, or else they would be at the top or at least in the hunt of the video game market.

Go walk through your local arcade (particularly the ones that buy the large games, like Jillian's or Dave and Busters) and count the Sega machines.  In terms of the active arcade games out there, they're #1 or #2 in quantity, though possibly not quality.  Yes, Sega has made some fatal mistakes in the past (releasing Dreamcast out of cycle being the most glaring, and yes, that's the primary reason Dreamcast died)

Dreamcast didn't die because of poor quality. DC dies because people figured out how to downoad and burn games easily and play them on stock hardware.

SEGA knew that the console was basically open source at that point, and had to back out rather than pour money into the probem trying to fix it.

Course, it probably didn't hurt that SONY spent more money than SEGA made that year just advertising against them, and EA left them out in the cold by not giving the DC any support either.

SO sad.

Hearing that really pissed me off. What a chickensh*t maneuver by EA. I think the EA sports games have gotten really lazy the past several years (with EA Big being my preference), and now that they own the sole rights to football they've effectively removed the entire competitive market. The SEGA ESPN series has been blowing every EA sports game out of the water the past few years, and now that EA's strategy is to negotiate monopolizing contracts things aren't going to get much better.

Screw EA

Sorry if you can't understand that Hulkster, maybe you should have gone to school instead of watching people shoot up steroids and take heart attacks and gas out. You flame, I flame. It's only fair.

"we are talking about not being able to play football if you dont purchase it."

What happened to the days of unlicensed football games? They were fun, sometimes better than madden. Gameplay is what matters, not the text or pic on the helmet or jersey. That means nothing when it comes to great gameplay. The engine makes the gameplay, not the franchise name. If they called it espn FFL (future football league) and had robot players or something, if the engine was the same, it would be just as good. Unless aestetics in a game matter that much.

yea i never knew what was so bad about madden, besides his real life commentary where he goes back and talks too much and you miss plays while watching a real game... but the madden games have been great... espn sucked big time... and i work at a toy store so i get game opinions and i play them everyday...
BUT
to each his own

i think it is a ---smurfette--- move made by ea

but at the same time, that's bussiness and after all games are a bussiness... just like movies and the director/actor relationship and stuff like that... yea, it's entertainment, but when it comes down to it, people gotta hustle to eat.

well i wont comment too much on your outlandish assumption, but im 24 and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in computer science so i think that speaks for something of my education.  but thanks for trying though.  i assume you are like 16 and very immature, but i wont hold that against you too much.

your last sentence is the only part that made sense.  all that copying and pasting from other forums....looked kinda like you were text messaging someone at first, and then writing a poem.  thats what i didnt understand there captain literature.

and your comeback about what i assume to bashing wrestling.  im sorry if you have bring in off the wall topics that have nothing to do with the original idea of this post for comebacks, but once again, being 16 and inexperienced limits your possibilities so i understand.

DCN - nobody seems to like you, why don't u just go away or grow up...

yes, a engine does make the game but in this day and age, everybody wants to be Tiki Braber running up the middle or Peyton Manning throwing a 75 TD catch to Harrison.  Only time EA got away with somthing like this is when Jordan had his own contract back in the day and Player 23 was on the Bulls.  Yes, we all knew he was Jordan but off the top of your head, how is #7 on the Knicks?  People want to attach names and faces to games.  What is NFL Street w/o NFL charters?  nobody cares about charhters that don't exist or develop over time.

You don't flame on my board.

You think you've been flamed, you find a way to respond maturely. You read and respect the rules of the board. You don't get around the auto-censor with misspellings and abbreviations. If a message is out of hand you report it to a moderator to take care of. You break the rules on this forum you get banned. You are banned. You can re-apply for access in 3 days via email.
