DragonKing Configuration Question
« on: December 13, 2004, 01:07:10 pm »
I started playing with the DK frontend.  It took a day for me to figure out that I was using a old ListGen with the new Mame but I finally got it going  :)  I decided on DK because of I liked the selection of skins and it was the 1st one I was able to get working  :P  So know how to gen the masterlist and the virtual directories and such.

Is it possible (and how), to have each of the game list have different skins.
For example,

Main Menu = Mame or  VPinball and I want GL style skin for Mame and the pinball skin for VPinball.

I've read the doc/faq but didn't see any examples of it.
If I missed it, just point me back to the general direction.

Thanks

Just Rename the skin's folder to either the caption of the gamelist or the image name of the gamelist you want it to be used for.   The default skin is the skin you've selected through dk internally, so simply take your pinball list and make the caption pinball and you are all set.

Btw the reason that it isn't covered in the docs yet is because there is a very slight focus bug regarding multiple skins.  It's already fixed in my development build, but due to circumstances beyond my control the "final" release of dk has been delayed and it might be the first of the year before you guys see it.

Hopefully it won't be that long, but you never know.

*A purely personal comment*

Thank you for stating that configuration is farily easy.  People seem to think that it's somehow more difficult than the others to setup, but at this point it's one of the easiest to setup, assuming the hardware requirements are met.

Howard...Thanks for the work you've done so far.
The file structure you set up isn't that complex but because there are dozens of FE out there with their own file structure, its probably confusing to some people out there that is used to something else.

If you don't mind & don't already have one in the works, I'll probably write a dummy proof DK configuration utilty.  I'm a developer by trade so I'll try not to destroy DK files with my utility  ;D
All your configuration files are well commented.  But as a general rule, I wouldn't like a average user to modify the cfg files by hand.  The software can also do some error checking and preform sanity checks to make sure all the files sync up with each other.

Again, Thanks for the work you put into the community.

Might have missed this in the documentation...does DK prompt you for what emulator you want to load upon startup? (ie - Daphne/Mame/Vpinball)

Excellent looking program btw, can't wait to give it a shot.

Dk boots up on the game and list you last navigated to prior to shutdown.
