Radeon 7000- no 640x480 available?
« on: December 12, 2004, 02:52:47 am »
Hey guys-
Got a new Radeon 7000 here on XP Home- it doesn't allow me to adjust my resolution down to 640x480- what gives?  The lowest it'll go is 800x600.  I was hoping for the smaller to let mame display better- is this needed?

Thanks!
D

you have wrong drivers or something.

I have that card in my computer at work (7000 VE) and it will do that res.

Try getting the newest detonator drivers from ATI

This is just XP being all bossy.....

XP+drivers are programmed to "suggest" that 800x600 is lowest resolution available. All gfx cards can go lower, but its just not an option in display properties in XP.

There are several ways round it - use a 3rd party app like powerstrip or (something less full-on), Or I think you can edit the registry (google for details of your card) or you can modify the *.inf files in the drivers before installation. Again google for info here....

And post your findings!

Go to display properties,
Select advanced.
Click on adapter.
Click on select list all modes.
Select 640x480 at 60hz.
Enjoy.

When xp says that your desktop is running at to low a resolution, click on the ballon,
tell it not to correct and not to help in the future.

Later,

Yup- that worked!  It still is VERY tough to read the text, so I guess I need to upgrade to S-Video now, huh? Im going to go buy a new tv today, so- hopefully that'll make it MUCH better. I can't go component since lightguns are not supported (yet). Anything else I can do to help make the resolution good enough to read the titles of the games?
Thanks
