Is anyone here a financial advisor/heavy investor/shareholder who can PM me some info on Vanguard?

I've got a prospectus coming, but it'll take a few days and I've got some questions.

If you can direct me to a site other than The Motley Fool that you trust, I'd appreciate it.

important advice! vanguard is lame! what with all those lasers firing every which way, its too hard to play unless you have a console designed just for it and then there's that annoying theme tune and if you.... oh. sorry.

Why wait?  You can download them (mutual funds):

What part of Vanguard are you looking at?  MSN Money is actually a good site to browse around.  I'm only a hobbyist, but I have good mentors.  Two of my old college roommates are into investing.  One is a licensed trader, one is a daytrader but his dad is a licensed trader.

I already sent off for them.  I was gonna print them off, but for some odd reason, decided to have 'em mail me some homework - reasons remembered and explained below ... I'm a member of the Fool, too, so I figured "meh, 'bout time this started paying off".

Specifically I have an old IRA account set up from a few years ago that seems strictly like it's become a money maker for American Express, and not me.  I'm looking to remove half of it from what it's currently invested in, and put it into Vanguard's Index 500 and slowly move it all over, but I'm also looking to start currently investing into it through another broker.

As a "punishment" a few years ago, one of my sons had daily reading omework of the first book from the Gardners, a dictionary list of words not understood, a small book report for what was read, and a list of words he didn't understand in the chapter just read (to look up the next day) before he could go ouside, and he ended up figuring out that now that he's got a job, if he plays his cards right, he could do well in life  ::) (I know, it's starting already, "dad's actually kinda smart, I guess I DIDN'T know everything about everything")

He's starting to think about putting some of his paycheck in the market - I'm letting him start with the "here's some monopoly money, let's see how you do", and he's got some looking and deciding to do on where his "safe" hedge bet is going into.  The deal is this - if he makes more than me, he gets to start (and he's even MORE interested, but shhhhhh!)  If we break even or I beat him, I get to choose where he's invested in.  And pay for it ::)
