Powerstrip to arcade monitor (software help need)
« on: September 30, 2002, 04:56:46 pm »
Ok, I downloaded Powerstrip and cannot seem to figure out how to get it to lower my 640x480 resolution to 15khz.  Powerstrip recognizes my laptops graphics chipset "SuperSavage/IXC" but I don't see options for lowering the sync rate.  Where should this option be located???

Not that I have used Powerstrip, but I think I read somewhere that the option to reduce the khz depended on the video card....if the video card can't support it I think Powerstrip wouldn't offer that option.

Not sure if that's correct though, maybe someone who's been playing with it can confirm that.....Good Luck.

Thats what I was afraid of....but my laptop (graphics card) also has a s-video tv out in the back...so I'm hoping it can do 15khz rgbhv via the vga port.  I just can't find where this option is.

Has anyone gotten powerstip to work for their arcade monitor?

I heard(yes only heard) that you have to manually change the INI file then it works with arcade monitors.i dont have any arcade monitor so no way i can test but go the powerstip installation folder and see if you can change anything there. :)

I got a question for ya :D,you have 34" svga arcade monitor right?HOW is the quility?you got the sharpimage one right? How much did you pay and got a pic maybe?I am thinkin about gettting one but i dont ever the actual pics anywhere on the net ???

Will you answer?Try to post like one pic atleast.PM me since we dont need to open up a new thread for this.

The problem with Powerstrip is that it's a pig to configure. If you know the settings for your card you can edit the config files but knowing settings for pixel clock, horizontal total, front porch, back porch etc is a problem!
Another method is by fiddling with the settings on the config screen, ie increasing/decreasing dot clock, H Freq etc, and enabling interlacing if necessary. This is really dodgy because if you use an SVGA monitor it freaks out when you go down below a certain scan rate, and if you swap over to an arcade monitor it might be damaged because the rate is not low enough! I have successfully done this but only because I am lucky enough to have an old NEC Multisync II Monitor which can sync on anything from 15 Khz to 36 Khz.
BTW if anyone finds an NEC Multisync I or II BUY IT they are gold dust, if in the UK I will buy it as a spare. They even work with original game boards. My work at the moment on an arcade monitor video card would simply be impossible without this monitor so I hope it stays working!
