Stupid me decided to upgrade my PC for my arcade machine. Anyway, I have a AVGA Radeon 7000 that was working great in a Dell 4550 machine using Windows XP home, hooked thru JPAC to a Sega Astrofighter cabinet (Nanao monitor). I now have a Compaq Presario SR1012NX (AMD 3200+, Nvidia based board with built in video which I disabled with AVGA AGP board taking its place) and the darn thing won't work, but in a very odd way. The PC boot screen looks fine, Windows XP Home splash screen comes up beautifully in interlaced full color mode, and prior to installing ATI drivers, it came up with a nice VGA 16 color 640x480 picture when finally in Windows itself (looks just like Safe Mode). However, when I try and install the ATI driver, the next time it boots up it comes up in 800x600 mode at 75Hz and the JPAC displays it as a split screen mode. I can run quick res and the lower resolutions are all listed there, but when I select any of them it displays a hyperrolling, split screen non synced picture. Windows Mame won't work. When I go into display properties and list all modes for the video card under the advanced settings tab the lower resolution (below 640x480) are missing completely. I have tried the ATI Catalyst driver uninstall program (which removes all remnants of ATI drivers), tried updating the drivers from the Device Manager submenu, tried installing multiple versions of the driver, tried installing the driver in safe mode, even tried removing the PCItoPCI bridge to deinstall all previous AGP card support and then reistall the drivers again. NOTHING WORKS ! I even tried uninstalling service pack 2 hoping that would help. No go ! Does anybody have any clue what the heck is going on here ? I finally tried installing my new AVGA Radeon 9200 but don't have a working driver to install it with (see next thread). So I am pulling my hair out with this. I am just about to wipe the harddrive and start over again for lack of anything better to try.
