anyone else do this?
« on: November 09, 2004, 11:36:57 pm »

as i was putting togher my coin door , i rembered somthing we would do as kids and was wondering if anyone else was doing this?

this worked 100% of the time on tron and galaga machines , but others had the weekness also ( BTW , mafgrs have gotten much much better at avoiding this kind of thing years and years ago )  if the toggle switch was agienst the door it woked , if it was farther back it normly didnt ....
ok , on the coin return of the machines , if you look inside , you can just see where the coin mech and the "bin" where the coins landed met , in alot of games , their was a nice 1/32 - 1/16 inch slot their ,  .. just big enuf for a decent paperclip to slip into .. we would take one of the standard large clips and bend it out ( i hope this looks ok - if not , think of a game of hangman )

ok .. the top part is just as wide as the coin return bin .. you would slip it in , then into the slot on the top ( betwene the bin and the coin mech ) .. then slide it to the right and pull it back ... the little hook on the top would just touch the wire on the toggle switch of the other coin mech ... a few taps on the bottom bent part and walla , free credits ...    i could get about 20 credits fast enuf that it looked like i bent down , put in a coin , and stood back up :-)

Oooooo!
Much better than the slugs I used as a teen. I had to be careful cuz sometimes the slugs would jam the mech and not come out. (That was always time to high-tail it out of there before the attendant put 2 and 2 together!)

When i was growing up there was this little arcade game place that had tons of little crane games and games where you poured in tons of coins into a slider to get prizes.  Well, you could get tokens for like 20 for a dollar to play these games....Funny thing is, at the other arcade place which had actual games, the tokens worked their as well.  So, I'd get about 5 dollars worth of tokens at one place and go play at the other....that worked for a few weeks till they caught on.

lol

I'm responsible for the downfall of arcades

im am now sad

We used the slug trick too. We would bend them out of electrical boxes at the hardware store and jam them into an old Atari Football game at the local bowling alley. Often we would need to pound the coin door to get it to slide in. I am still surprised we never got caught. Must have played 100 games of football that day  :D
Vids:  Home built MAME machine, Crystal Castles. Arkanoid

Always on the lookout for buying 90's game with Ramps that need work...

I scrounged the slugs from construction sites...

They didn't always work. I recall the one machine that they worked in perfectly every time was a Ms Pac Man.
