Help please - Mamewah layout backgrounds not showing up

I can see it when I crank up the Layout designer but when I run MameWah it's not there; I just see a gray background.  I've tried all the color depth options but beyond that I'm at a loss.

I had previously had an issue with the screenshots not showing up and discovered that when I ran the "setup.bat" from the extra system files (system.zip) that the last command (regsvr32.exe paintx.dll) was giving me an error.  I entered it manually (after trying the batch file) and then the screenshots appeared.    I only mention this in case it's some kind of paintx.dll related problem

I think this is probably incorrect naming of the background image file(s).  Read \docs\layouts.txt and make sure your image(s) are named appropriately...
