Konami 4-player cabs (TMNT, Simpsons, Sunset Riders, X-Men, etc)
enchntr:
I have the same type of cabinet which I MAMEd. Now, I don't have the layout, so I'll bore people with an image of the cab:
Pretty similar to what is documented here, but a couple of differences. It all works out. :)

Paige, a couple of questions. Why did you drop the mouse buttons? I am just curious, are they of little or no use? When you use that 6 button configuration do you use:
123 456
456 or 123
Although I have 7 buttons in my layout I was only planning on having 6 configured:
1234
456
The admin buttons were in question for me too. Dropping them does clean it up a bit more. I gather you have no problem with the joystick in the centre being too close to the monitor.
By the way I have the original Visio file if you what to use it. You can print it out full size and see how things feel.

I didn't DROP the mouse buttons, I simply put them in an unexpected spot. The 3 start buttons are the three mouse buttons.
Is there anything free that can print these visio files?
paigeoliver:
I have decided that I am going to make sure my control panel completely terminates in a JAMMA harness, and I'll use the non-edge connector inputs on the JPAC for the coin door and such.
That way I can EASILY implement swappable panels. Like a 4-player panel, a music game panel, etc, etc.
Wade:
That panel sketch doesn't look deep enough. I think the TMNT panel is more like 13" deep and that one couldn't even be 12, judging by the trackball plate which is about 6" IIRC.
Also, those buttons and joys have to be in from the edges more, after all your panel is going to have sides and a front on it, right? Figure 5/8" or 3/4" extra space around the edges.
I'm sure there are plenty of other ways, but I just used 2 of the buttons for the player 1 joy as the 2 mouse buttons. Since it is very rare that I use Windows anyway, this works perfectly. I just don't see the purpose to having the extra buttons for the mouse. ?
This is (arguably) the best type of cabinet for Mame because it offers so much flexibility with a large horizontal monitor, and also good visibility for 2 or more players.
