You can buy it right now on Steam. If you buy now, you get to play CounterStrike:Source straight away! And you'll be able to play HL2 the second it's available. I've been playing CS:Source over the last few nights and it's fantastic; everything you love about CounterStrike, but in the gorgeous HL2 engine! Thanks to Valve's Steam distribution system, there's no need to rush out anywhere- great news for couch potatoes!

If I purchase the game, do I download the game or do they mail me the cds? Or do I install the game locally via their servers ?

Thanks for the break down. Just wondering the retail version of HL2 will include CS: Source? As I would like to have a hard copy of the game myself too.
Maybe I'll finally try counter strike. Seems everyone loves it so much. I guess half life 2 is an added bonus
I dont have the money to do either. Im probably gonna bootleg it
