anyone heard of this?  apparently it has somewhat of a big underground following and is being touted as the next REZ.. (if you dont know what REZ is, it is an awesome music based shootem-up)
gameplay is kinda like marble madness with lots of mayhem and destruction..
you can pick it up brand new, if you can find it, for $20

I am probably going to pick it up when I get a chance.  It looks really kooky.

Played it, it ain't the next REZ.  It's novel, but it's not as hype-worthy as everybody would have you believe.  I've played worse games though.

What's so novel about Rez, anyway?  I beat the game without being hit my first time through.  I didn't get the "good" ending where you save the chick or whatever, though, but still.  It was just stupid.  Panzer Dragoon Orta is the same game for all intents and purposes, but with better level design, less repetition, better looking EVERYTHING, an actual storyline, etc, etc.  Why is THAT game not so highly touted as that piece of crap Rez?  'cuz the Japanese version didn't come with a pulse box?  Blah.  Just play any of the Dragoon series and you have a better game.

I picked this up and I have to agree with that statement.  Yet at the sametime, I could not stop playing it.  I could do without the wacky storyline and rainbows though.

No that is an accurate description of the intro.  There are lots of rainbows and animals and strange things going on.  Ultimately, some odd looking "King of the Cosmos" steals all of the stars.  In the game, as "prince of the cosmos," you roll up trash and launch it into the sky to create new stars.  Umm yeah...

Rez actually started off as a prototype for Panzer Dragoon Orta, but then somewhere along the line they decided to turn it into its own game.  I've played both a lot, but I prefer Rez.  While both are GREAT games, Rez just has a certain "zone" that you can get into and it's just like a zen thing.

That same zen thing is what I hear Katamri Damacy has.  I've yet to find anywhere that has ever even heard of it, let alone carry it.  I will probably sign up for Gamefly because of this game.

I got it from ebgames.  While their clerks and polices are annoying, I find that they have the best selection of stuff, but not always the best prices.  Katamari Damacy was $20.

Picked up my copy the other day at Fry's Electronics here in Houston...  For a non-game-specific store, they have a pretty good selection, and I always prefer not to support the EB chains.

As for Katamari Damacy itself, it's pretty slick.  Still working on getting the controls down (especially the joystick wiggle for the turbo roll) and I'm only on the fourth level, but I can already tell it'll be keeping me going for awhile.  The skill-based gameplay, coupled with the collecting aspect and the fact that you can revisit past levels to beat your old records and try for more objects leaves a lot open for replay value.

I wish we got more fun, colorful titles like this over here.  Makes me miss the Dreamcast.

It's a trashy game where you're a floaty guy made of boxes pulsing inside a long rectangular box shooting enemies that are stars, or boxes, or other things.  You hold down the button to lock, drag over enemies, and release to shoot them.  Even time you lock onto something or hit them, the game makes a noise that adds to the hippie-trance music that's playing the entire game.  If you've ever been to a rave that had boring music that one or more hippies would claim to be "new age and spiritual", that's the music you're going to listen to while playing this game.  Your guy can't move, you just look around you a la a third-person shooter on tracks while you move around your lock-on cursor.  It's an easily-beaten game if you have any level of skill at life, period, as I don't think I got hit more than once during my first time through the entire game.

Some versions outside the US came with a "pulse box" which was, truth be told, an overglorified vibrator that hooked to your PS2 and pulsed with the game's rhythm.  So far as I know, this vibrator never had any real use aside from making you wonder why the game came with a vibrator.  Maybe it's to shut your woman up while you play your games.  I don't know.  Anyway, I don't think it works with any other game, either.

If I want wire framed games, I'll play Red Alarm on my Virtual Boy.  That's right, a virtual boy game is better than Rez.  I said it.

Once every yay months I get a Rez-urge. I play it, then it's back the the box for another yay months.

It's just hard to find, so people make it better than it is.

It is better than Red Alarm tho. Mmmm. Virtual Boy.

(runs off to go play Galactic Pinball)  ;)
