While not entirely on the subject. I was actually looking into devloping  something like this for home theaters when I found someone had beat me to it. for about 5grand you can get your own

I didnt look at the site too closely.... however,  it looked like simple selenoidal movers.

A simular effect can be done for much cheaper.   Aura created the "Bass Shakers".   Though they are no longer produced... there are many still floating arround.

Basically, the shaker is like a speaker without the air moving cone part.  It uses the magnetic force to move a weighted unit so that it vibrates violently.  The low power bass shaker could make 30lbs force per foot!

I put 2 under my pc chair, and played a few mame games.  Freekin Incredible!   Its like a high power car subwoofer... but much more intense... without the need for super loud amplification and high pressure air movments.   I highly suggest them.

Grab them and a low power sub-amp at  www.partsexpress.com

or check ebay for people selling kits with them.

There are other commercially produced 'transducers'.  One is called the "Buttkicker"  But cost about twice as much.  (but is like 5 times as powerfull)

Those can't be ALL that much...

they arent designed for quick reactions so they wouldnt be all that appropriate. i second xiaou2 s comment on using electric motors

I used to live across the street from a lowrider shop. The hydraulics in them use ALOT of juice. And much of the hopping action you see pictures of is more bouncing action as the machine is bouncing the tires off the ground (hard to explain, but the vehicle goes up higher and higher with each bounce, and they time the hydraulic thrust to help out with this effect. I used to have a truck with a worn out suspension that could get the front wheels off the ground using the same effect (working clutch, gas, and brake to make it bouce higher and higher until the tires left the ground).

Even the cars with the mild hydraulic setups needed two marine batteries in the trunk to run the stuff, and they drained quick. The competition hydraulic cars might have a dozen or more batteries.

Plus that stuff is not designed for constant use.

THIS is what you need...

me and the gf were down at Dave & Busters not that long ago, and they had a handful there... was pretty good.  of course this was the full 'deluxe' model...

it claims 6 degrees of motion, my not sound like much... but it does the job... besides, if you want/need more than that... you need R-360... which if you've got room for hydrolics, you've got room for this.

Xiaou2:
btw - im pretty sure r360 is also drivin by motors.  Ive seen a video of it in action.  looks pretty cool.

heh...me needs a hydralic pipe bender... and space to put a human gyro!  : )
