i remember playing the jurassic park game at chuck e cheese and it had a force feedback seat that went along with the "tram" in the game.. those were good times..

While we are on the subject, how much would a 6 foot mechanical spider with death lasers cost? ;)
In all seriousness though, the hydraulic chair thingie would be cool. It would probably be possible, but you would need to have a good handle on higher-math concepts to get it to feel right. For driving games it might be possible to get a somewhat good feeling system by just reading controls, but then you have to consider bumps and such. It would probably be pretty expensive whatever one could build.

Well, it looks like the guy who built the $2000 machine hasnt really finished it... as there is no software to drive it. Thats another technical hurdle.
I do think using motors would be much cheaper, and easier. My idea was just to make a limited gyro-chair like design.... that had 2 motors. One for up/down tilting, and one banking left/right. You could go all out and mount the entire thing on a motor driven spinning floor for an additional axis.
The sitdown outrun cab was one of my fav's... really added a nice touch. Later I ran into a Space Harrier SD that had a 25" or larger monitor on it! I never cared too much for the game... but let me tell you, with such a large monitor... and the fast gameplay + rocking machine... I litterally felt like I was strapped to a rocket! ^_^ Giggling like a little schoolgirl all the way! : ) lol
If anyone has any scans of the sega sitdowns... Id love to see how they are set up internally.

they arent designed for quick reactions so they wouldnt be all that appropriate. i second xiaou2 s comment on using electric motors
