Hacking Xbox Controller Analog Click Buttons?
« on: October 13, 2004, 04:08:01 pm »
Not sure how many of you have the modded xbox, but my inspiration for creating a cabinet was because I have mame and all the old school nintendo games on my modded xbox.  I started the project with the idea that I would buy 4 used 3rd party xbox controllers, strip them down, and "hack" the connections.  So far I've been pretty successful (D pad, ABXY buttons, white black and after reading

I just learned how to do the L and R buttons)  However, this thread im referring to is like 6 months old, and it seems as though it just kind of ended abruptly.  If anyone knows more about this I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who sought this forum because of these types of questions and answers about hacking controllers.  My question is: how do i find where to solder points to get the right thumb stick "Click" button.  You know which button im talking about.  The reason why I need it for my arcade is because the Super Nintendo Emulator as well as another emulator the right thumb stick click button is used to get to the options menu in the emulator.  Without the options menu I'm unable to switch the game that i'm playing without restarting the whole xbox.... which isnt very practical at all.   If you have any idea what I could do and also if you know more about hacking the analog stick (The all or nothing 8 directional method that was mentioned in the above thread) I could truely use it.

Thanks,
Pat

why not use your dmm to check for continuity through contacts on the stick?  you should be able to find it fairly easily by looking for the on/off action of the button..

just a followup for those that might still ask this question: I found the leads right next to where the button presses down for the right thumb button.  Just look closely, its all there.
