Any console emulators with a built in GUI ?
« on: September 04, 2004, 09:59:09 pm »
Just wondering if there are any console emulators out there that have a built in frontend like MAME 32 ?

Thanks

Definetly MESS

www.mess.org

It's a project similar to mame but for consoles. It has a command line and a GUI version.

Enjoy ...

Hey PedroSilva,
I downloaded MESS .086 but I can't seem to get it running. I put all the system bios files into the correct "bios" folder. I put a bunch of game software files into the "software folder too.  When I loaded MESS I noticed that the bios files window displays all the bios files but the software window is blank. ??? I then went back into my MESS folder and made sure that I put the software in the correct subfolder. Sure enough they're in there but they're not being recognized. I double click on a system and a window pops up saying "requires that device cartridge must have an image to load" Why isn't it recognizing the software/rom images ? Obviously I made sure that I clicked on a system that I know I downloaded roms for but it doesn't make a difference.  What am I doing wrong ? :-\
Thanks,

Hi,

I'll try to help but I'm also a newbie regarding Mess ...  ;D
I've sucefully used it with the spectrum emulation

For start ... what system are you using ?

Here are some hints:

I don't know if you have donne but it's never to much ...

You must place the roms on the software directory with a sub-dir for each system.

Example for spectrum:

- spectrum bios file on "\bios"

- spectrum games on "\software\spectrum\"

There's an option on the GUI version (messgui.exe if I'm not mistaken, wich is similar to mame32), that automaticaly creates all the folders on the software directory (sorry can't recall wich but it's intuitive ... check all the menu options)

For testing the bios, there's an audit similar to the one on Mame32 ... use it to check your bios files ...

Hope this helps ... ha ... also very important ... read the help file wich is placed on "\mess\" ... it has plenty on specific system info on each console/emulation ...
