backlit film????

Ive seen recomendations on this board to have to marquee printed on "backlit film"   Ive asked a local print shop and they have never heard of "backlit film" before.   Is tehre another name for this?   Is there any other types of paper that the marquee would look good printer on?

You might try the word "translite" which I believe is a brand name.

If you search google for "backlight film" (*with* the quotes) you will find a lot of hits that will tell you more about it. I'd suggest that any print shop that hadn't heard of it is pretty lame.

You can print on just about anything and light it up from behind, but some media are designed with that use in mind. They don't have any grain, and they allow a lot of light through (much more than paper).

If you have *any* inkjet printer, you can print on a plain piece of paper and hold it up where the marquee goes to get an idea of what it would look like. If they print on heavy coated paper, or photo paper, it will be darker (or much darker, in the case of photo).

Printing on mylar film would probably be a decent compromise, but i've never done it.

I ended up just sending it to http://mamemarquees.com/ for printing.   I was concerned by all the printers who did not understand what I wanted to do.  I have not gotten it back yet, but his prices where better then most printers where offering.
