Author Topic: HELP! I cant get AdvanceMAME to find roms after launching with arcadeos!  (Read 3309 times)

Heres a doosie for a first post!
Im a real newbie to this, and Im going to be using an arcade monitor with 1900xp, ATI radeon 7000 series, soundblaster live, arcadeos and advance mame, ect.
The problem I have is I cant seem to get the damn roms to show up under arcade os. Ive played around for like 6 hours just trying to get them set up. I cant find any real good setup procedure on the net for these two programs.
Any help out there?
Oh, and Im runing the current versions of both as well.

I havent seen too many reads on this, ??? and I KNOW someone out there has some sort of tutorial or instructions on how to set up the latest versions of arcadeos and advance mame. I tried using fraggles disk, and the in game graphics go ape when a game is ran (all garbles and whatnot).

Since you're using the latest version of Mame, do you have the legacy option marked as '0' in the arcadeos.cfg?

Ill go and check that now. What does the legacy option do and for? Im used to using mame32 on my pc, so this dos-advance mame and arcade os is a WHOLE new animal to me.

Legacygen=0 in my arcadeos.cfg file. Anything else to check? Still no-go. ???

I Had this very same problem and could not get arcadeos to list the roms either (using advancemame as well).  It was a while ago, but I believe what ended up working was making a second roms directory (avdmame used /roms/ or /rom/)

Check if you have a roms or rom directory. Then make a second one with the other name ie /rom/

Copy a couple of your roms into this directory.  If this works then move all your roms into this one.

Also check in your config file (arcadeos) to see where its looking for your roms, can try changing this as well to match. I tried this but it didn't work.

I had tried countless things to get it to work, so many that I kind of forgot which actually worked.

P.S. if this doesn't work I have some more idea's for you

Post both your mame.cfg and your arcadeos.cfg so we can take a look @ them.

Also, delete all your .lst file and the .rnd and .rms files, and try it again.

Oh, and the legacy option is for older versions (pre .84) of Mame, since they used the "-listinfo" option and not the "-listxml" option.

ok...i got the rom folder duplicated to /roms also. Ill go ahead and try Peals idea. Im assuming these are in the Mame directory. Now I am running AdvanceMame - not just mame - does that make a diffrence? Peale, I just PM'd you on yahoo. please get back with me if possible.

Still nothing. Damn. I noticed also that when I run arcadeos, that the first 4 options in the dropdown menu are "blacked out" does this mean that it cant find mame? After I deleted the aformentioned files, it went into generating -list and it said something like c:/-listinfo.xml or something. Is this part of the problem as well?

Having same problem.

When I set filters active = no I can now see the games, but it appears the info is not working.

The games are listed by dos names, not the long names and the game info is blank.

That is why the filters were blocking view of any games because it appears the info is not there so the filters can't work.

Now, HOW TO GET THE INFO BACK!!!!!?????

Thats some info to me. I never had any info, or long file names...i thought thats how it was...now I guess I have another problem to sort out as well  :'(.
