I took a double take when I first read it.  I then checked to see if it was towards the beginning of april...

I can't wait to get home and try it.

I wonder if some people are going to upgrade their computer to be able to play Virtua Fighter.

Actually, I gave it a shot on my desktop (1.4ghz), and although it only ran half-speed (~30fps), the sound didn't break up and it was quite playable.  I can't wait to try it on my 2.8ghz cabinet  ;D

I've just noticed that it seems like a lot of people have older machines, and just play some of the 80s classics.  I was just wondering how many out there would upgrade just to play Virtua Fighter.

That's good that it runs decent on a 1.4ghz.  The project I'm working on has a 2.5ghz in it, so I should be okay ;)

I don't think people who like to play mainly 80's classics will bother.  I think Virtua Fighter is a love it or hate it kindof game...I'd bet many 80's classic lovers don't think much to it!

Actually minwah, for me I beg to differ :)  I am a classic 80s gamer.  Love pacman, double draong, mr do, frogger, etc..  I am not much into fighters, hoever I am into fighters like virtua fighter, soul edge, and soul caliber.  They don't use hocus pocus (except for yoshi in soul caliber and cervantes) meaning they don't do things like throw fireballs or use magic.  It's simple weapons or martial arts fighting.

Cool :)

Actually the one thing which drew me to VF at the time was the same thing - realistic moves.  I never played Soul Edge but Soul Calibur was the next 3d fighter to really grab my attention.

That's interesting.... because that's the exact reason I hate the vf series along wiht most other "realisitic" fighters.  Simulation games are boring, I need something interesting visually to make it fun.

With that being said, I'm not your typical fighter fan either.   I hate the kof series, I hate the tekken series, the doa series sucks, and in all honesty I could do without the soul caliber series.  Why?  You can have the best combo system, fireballs, graphics engine, ect in the world, but if the characters and storyline aren't compelling then it's a waste of time.  I guess that's why I don't like vf.  The characters are really lame and there isn't much of a story line to speak of.

With that being said... mk4 is "this" close to being playable in mame.  I think that'll be a big upgrade game too.

Love em or hate em, some of these games getting emulated recently are landmark games in the industry.

It's nice to see actual new systems and non clone games getting added again.

Anyway, point being, the term "classic" has nothing to do with age.  A good game is a good game regardless, that's why I encourage old timers to upgrade.  They might be suprised.

I think if you were into fighting games in the mid-90's, then you were probably either in the MK Kamp or the VF Camp.  Simply because the amount of time to learn the hundreds of moves, combos and finishing moves, plus the quarters invested was too great for most people to do on more than 1 game.

Plus the fundamental difference between one game being 2d and the other 3d.  This is only if you wanted to be competitive with other folks of course.

Personally the place I was working at, at the time, had a MKII machine so that is what I played, played it until I could pull off every fatality in my sleep.  When my friend said "hey, you have to check out this new 3d virtua fighter game!!!", I did go and play it, but it just didn't do it for me.

When they got rid of the MKII machine and got the new MKIII, I once again relearned all the moves, but something about it just didn't seem as fun as II.  Not sure if it was a worse game, or if it was just my own sense of sentimentality, but my favorite will always be MKII.

I lost interest in the MK series after MK2, but this looks like an interesting one...

Not sure about the puzzle mode mind  ::)
