doing a cab with a dreamcast and vga computer monitor.... Can I output to pc speakers somehow? whats the best speaker option?

my dreamcast vga box has an audio out jack.

If your VGA box lacks audio out, you can easily output to PC speakers using some audio adapters that can be found at a place like radioshack.  I have my DC outputting to my PC speaker hack.

Just an FYI, if your vga adapater does not have a volume control for the audio out plug, you may have a lot of signal clipping as they crank the volume for headphone use (not line-in use).

I only know of 2 DC VGA adapters with the volume control (I have them both).  The GameMadness VGA adapter, and DC Blaze VGA adapter.

ok mine has headphone plug, thanks. What do you think about using pc speakers with a subwoofer?

by the way, my vga is the transparent blue "naki" model.  don't know if it is sold under another name, as i bought it in a used game store.

I connected it to a rather large stereo and subwoofer system. Its a five speaker 5.1 speaker system, but the front left port is broken, so i did one front, one back, and sub. It sounds pretty good. Can get real loud. I think louder than a cheap pair of pc speakers. Only problem is, it fills up like my entire cab. Now Ive got to find a way to mount it.

My PC/DC arcade is in my room, and I recently got a new stereo. It's a Sony surround sound system w/ 5 speakers and a sub. I have my PC and DC plugged into it and it's great!

I used a 1/8-inch audio jack "Y" cable to do this. Both my DC VGA box and my MAME PC are connected to the top of the "Y" and my cabinet speaker system is on the bottom end. End result is that I don't have to do any swapping and both the PC and the DC can use the speaker system at the same time if I want. I have an outboard volume control on the outside of the cabinet. Works great and no soldering or jury-rigging.
