PC to TV (would this work?)
« on: August 01, 2004, 12:07:05 pm »
Hello All! First time poster! Just got my X-Arcade 2 player and I'm ready to build a MAME cab. I want to use my laptop to power my MAME cab. I would also would like to hook my dreamcast up as well. I've read some of the FAQ's I didn't see anyone using a converter from PC to TV. I quick eBay search I found this I don't know this person or ever bought from them) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31534&item=3496183325 Would one of these over come the quality of the image problem most people have?

I'm hoping this will work so I don't have to build a new PC to have a S-video out. I'm I barking up the wrong tree or will this work?

Take Care and Have Fun!

Well, unless the guy is a scamster then that scan converter should work just fine.

The reason you don't see anyone using a converter like this is because unless they are very expensive the picture quality is normaly, well, trousers, quite frankly.

So yes, it will work, but probably not a whole lot better than any other scan converter that you got from frys or radio shack or whatever.

If you want GOOD image quality you really need a proper arcade monitor with an arcadeVGA/Jpac. if your budget won't stretch to that then a SCART TV with a hacked cable to get the RGB signals from your video card is the next best option, failing that Svideo out will be ok ish and composite out will be worst of the lot.

THe main advantage that thing has is htat it's a peice of consumer electronics, you can plug and go. If you decide later that you want better quality then you can look at your options.
