Would some kind soul help me make a marquee?
« on: July 07, 2004, 08:33:06 pm »
So here's the story: I have the trial version of paint shop pro from the Project Arcade CD; took a book out of the library to learn how to use it and . . . well . . . I probably would have absorbed as much knowledge had I simply ate the stupid book. Now here I am, begging for one of the talented artists on this website to help me out. I don't think I can afford to pay, but I guess it depends on how much you'd charge.

My idea is simple: a logo in the center, a slogan under the logo, and the official-est looking MAME, Nintendo, SEGA, and Visual Pinball (or just Pinball maybe?) logos available in each of the four corners. I'm posting something I drew in paint to illustrate this. The logo and slogan are basically the way I want them to look, only I'd like them to not be so sucky. Some kind of neat font or special effect would be nice, just keeping the two big A's encircling the slogan, please.

I don't need a real complicated background or anything, I'm a fan of the Arcade Paradise 3 marquee and the Project Arcade marquee --both simple, yet eye-catching designs.

Thanks in advance!

I might be able to help.

What colors are you looking for?
What size is the marquee?
Half of the people you meet are below average.

Hey! Thanks for the offer! I've already accepted an offer for help from 3dmacman via a direct message, but again, I really appreciate it!

If you get real bored and wanna throw something together anyway, or if you feel the manly need to overthrow 3dmacman (hey why not), the size is PROBABLY 7.75" by 26" --that seems to be normal for LuSiD cabs (I'm in early assembly). Colors? That's trickier ... I haven't ordered T-Molding yet because I can't make a color decision. The only colors for sure are the buttons I already have: red player 1 and 2, blue admin, a couple green extra buttons for dedicated 4-way, and a blue trackball.

yeah, I might have time to try and make one for you too. Same quesions, what size and stuff?

I'll have to look at the PA book to see the example you're talking about.

It would be no charge - just for good kharma that the kind people of this site might help me with wiring stuff once I get that far (I'm a bit frightened of the wiring part)

You can see the once I've done for myself in this thread:
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=13;action=display;threadid=21582

whoops, you responded to the last guy as I was sumitting this. Never mind.

yeah, I might have time to try and make one for you too.

Same as above, if you want to give it a shot, be my guest! If I get enough ArcadiA marquees, maybe I'll put together a special online art gallery!  ;D

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having getting your cab built. I guess there is no hurry on the marquee. I got one done for you and have another one at home to show you. here is a preview. let me know what you think and any general ideas about the overal theme of your cab. That could  really help nail down some ideas. Don't stress over building your cabinet right away. it took me over a year to get to the point now that I can play games on my cab, still needs a bigger screen and bezel.

It looks really good so far! Thank you so much!

I was thinking black cab, blue t-molding. So I'd like to have a blue middle logo but there's already a lot of blue on the marquee . . . so what if we (and by we I mean you, did I mention how much I appreciate your help?  ;D) switched the SEGA and Pinball logos (great job, BTW) and changed the Pinball logo to a light silvery-white, then made the logo blue. Also, while the font is growing on me, how hard would it be to experiment with some different ones?

On another note--and I may post this plea for help in another topic so as not to wear out my welcome--I got an idea this morning for side art, where it would be a recognizable character (or characters) from each of the companies in the same 2x2 order as on the marquee. Like Ryu, Pinbot, Mario, Sonic . . . dunno, do you think that would look cool or lame? Anyone feel free to jump in with opinions!

I think it's pretty cool! Having a web grabbing at all the logos makes the whole marquee a lot more interesting and arresting. It really popped at me when I first brought it up. And I really like this Visual Pinball logo as compared to the other one. I wonder how it would look with a blue logo, it's kind of hard to read parts of the yellow against the white. Also, is the transparency of the Nintendo and SEGA logos deliberate? I thought maybe if they were on top of the lines it would be a more "caught in the web" look.

I can't wait to see what you come up with next! I'm getting very excited.  :)

How does these grab you. if you can't tell there is a starfield in the background of the one that looks totally black.

I'm definitely liking the spider one . . . what color t-molding do you think would match it well? I was going to order blue but maybe I should try something else. Maybe just black would be better. Do you think the ArcadiA logo in the spider one would look okay blue?

Could you change the Visual Pinball logo in the spider one back to the way it was the first spider one and send me a copy of just the VP logo? I think I should have it on hand by itself in case I ever want to make a MAMEWAH skin or some such nonsense.

where do you want me to send the v-pinball logo to? Maybe use yellow for your t-molding.
