Forgive me, but why on earth are you using MAME32?Use a FE designed for arcade controls and you won't have a problem
M32 was the easiest/fastest method of testing the minipac. This encoder is supposed to "emulate" a real keyboard anyway, so what will another mame version matter? I will look into some FE's. I don't see how this will help since the minipac cannot even repeat keystrokes on keyboard test, notepad, word, etc. It performs the basics so I'm still happy with it. Anyways, thanks for the advice.

Anyways, thanks for the advice. It will work the same in MAME itself...but what I was getting at is that FE's designed for arcade controls / cabinets usually have code to get around the keyrepeat problem - ie hold the joystick and it will scroll, whether keyrepeat is enabled or not. MAME32's GUI is just not meant for arcade controls...
I see now!! You are right. I realized, that during gameplay, I can hold down a character(ie. squat down and stay down) and hold fire buttons down for constant firing. This clearly illustrates that Mame's GUI was the issue not the minipac at all. I'm checking out some frontends right now. Thanks for the clarification MinWah.
