Largest Screen For me?
« on: June 24, 2004, 10:29:58 pm »
Hey
Right now I have a pc monitor in my cab only 15"!! heheh problem is it was an actual arcade machine so there is limited space for a screen. How is an arcade monitor with Nebula Model 2? N64? Dreamcast? and other emus? My cab was designed for an arcade monitor i think it may take a 27"

thanks
JIM

why on earth would you put a $1500 LCD in your machine?

Just measure the inside width of your monitor area.  Subtract an inch or so for some wiggle room and that is the max width for a monitor you can use.  Now just go look at TV's, computer monitors, etc in stores and get some measurements.  If it's under your number, you can use it.

I don't see why you'd consider buying or using an LCD for it that is that much money. But then again, that is just my opinion.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I think civic83 has some refurbed 21" pc monitors--he's local as well so shipping will be much easier--I'd drop him a line and see what they cost (if he has one)
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I have the measurements and some pics I will show you guys tomarrow maybe you can help me out. I do not want to buy an LCD but it seems to be the way to go. Either that or an ARCADE screen, but I want to run Dreamcast etc.. and been told its not good to use. I have heared arcade vga runs choppy with newer games....makes sense to me it has older chipset than newer graphics cards.. but how will a arcade monitor look if i just plug into my Nvidia card.. i have heard games dont fit the screen correctly??? any suggestions? I will get some dimensions and sizes for you guys tomarrow cause i need to run to work!! all i recall is the cab did have a arcade screen and was designed for one... its wide..not too high the problem is depth... Ill find out

ok there is a small wood frame near the front where the glass sits but could go bigger possible.
with small frame

22 1/4 W x 19 Deep x 15 1/4 thats if you mount it on wood piece....

put screen behind it inside can go max

24" W x 19" deep X depending on plastic molding around screen any size......but remembering the top speaker part may cut it off.

I can also hack the top spearker part of cab off too and alter the frame. Or lower the shelf.. really dont want to do that cause the nice smoked glass wont fit. I have attached some pics to explain my delima

It sounds like what you want is either a tv, a vga monitor or a 31khz vga monitor. (since you want to avoid the arcade vga.)

Ive had alot of experience with the arcade vga and its great. It doesn't make any sense for it to not work well with newer games unless they are in 3d. Still the majority of the work is all done by the processor.

another thing, the dreamcast works fine on arcade monitors it is pretty much a stripped down naomi board

on topic just get an arcade monitor that supports 31 khz and you can play your "newer 3d games" and xbox at 480p plus you can pick whatever graphics card there is.

480p is just something more common to game consoles. The xbox is the best emu machine ever imho. The xbox plays just about every game in 480p This really just means 640x480. If you get a 31khz arcade monitor you are set for plug and play straight to a pc running at 640x480. For an xbox you will need a x2vga. This is a transcoder not a scan converter. This makes it so the componenet video from the xbox becomes vga at 640x480 (480p)  this can also be plugged directly into a 31khz arcade monitor.
