Dual monitor (side by side) arcade machines?
« on: June 13, 2004, 11:40:28 pm »
I just purchased two 20" TV's and was going to build two cabinets and place them back to back using the same computer.

But....

I'm sure you all know how plans change 50 times before you start building your cabinet. ;)

I've been exploring the option of building a big cabinet to place in a corner of our game room. It would have two monitors in it (side by side) with both monitors pointing at about a 90 degree angle.

I know I've seen arcade machines like this back in the 80's, but I can't seem to remember their names or find any online.

I just need a photo / image of one to get an idea for my sketches.

Any help or links to see online?

Thanks!

Something along those lines, but with the monitors closer together and pointing more towards the center of the cabinet.

P.S. Damn is that thing is ugly. ;)

Here's another looks like based off the same design

or maybe this one

you'd want to remove the cockpit and redesign the CP around the monitors.

What I'd love to see is to have 2 monitors and be able to play cyberball 4 players (2 players gets one screen and the other 2 gets the other screen) but I'm not sure how MAME handles output to 2 separate monitors.  If I run the rom as is I get two screens side-by-side (not very playable)

That's close...

Scrap the middle monitor (and the seats of course) and then take the two outside monitors and tilt them outwards instead of inwards.

I've searched all over klov.com with no luck on my idea.

Nintendo Vs. Dual system cabinets.

Just searched and this is what I found. (Not really what I am looking for).

Is there a different cabinet photo available for an upright?

Yes, the Vs. Dual cabinet was built in a full sized (more like huge) upright cabinet.

Back to my original question then...

Would you happen to know where there is a photo available online that I can view to help me with my sketches?

hmm...speaking of inspriation...

how would i do the picture above in sections (i live in apt)

i thought about 4 main peices (the two bottom peices and two peices) and then combine the top and bottom sections...then place top above bottom...

what do you think of this appoarch..?

the cp would go with the top half of the unit....

If you don't have any more photos do you know what the cabinet was originally so I can search for some more photos?
