Help with Emulaxian/Fe-3darcade 0.66
« on: August 04, 2002, 05:29:03 pm »
First, this front end is awesome!

I have it set up and working for mame and pinball.  I have the jukebox working to play playlists.

I want the get the movies and/or video working too.  I am currently using the fpsdemo2.  I have fiddled a little and gotten the arcade machines and 2 pins in there working all the way...backglasses and playfields on the pins.  SWEET!

Now I want to be able to watch mpg or avi or whatever clips in the theater.  I have tried setting up the wmplayer as described.  I downloaded wmp6.4 and installed it over the 7.x, but when I check the version it still lists it as 7.x.

I am not sure if this is my problem or not.  I can get the movie clips to play on the machines (asteroid and astdelux), but I want to be able to play the clips from Williams arcade classics, lasermame, etc.  When I approach the Movie Player screen it will not show it's name.  The last game I was on still shows in the name bar.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I cannot get the feutilities.exe to work.  First it said it could not find qtintf.dll, so I downoaded it and put it in my system folder.  Now I just get script error.

p.s. My system hangs from time to time when I hit 5 to switch from 3d to page mode.  In page mode the pictures seem screwed up.  I have an S3 Savage4 video card.

Thanks in advance!

>It looks like your confusing the showing of movies in the frontend itself with real player and using media player to show movies fullscreen externally like it is shown by Stephan in the tutorial. To show videos in the arcade, on the cabs or moviescreen, they have to be in realmedia format like the videos for on the cabs on the website. They will show up for a game when you have real player 8 on your system and have set the glvideo path in the cfg file for the emulator that game is associated with to the location of the video file...so for mame games as you allready know in cfg/emulators/femame.cfg but for the moviescreen in the same way in cfg/emulators/femovies.cfg... the edit the movie playlist in cfg/playlistmovies.atf to your movies like:
|mymoviedescription|mymoviefilename||||movies|||Yes|movies|arcmovies||||||||||||||||||||||||||
oh and yes...in the release version the screen is placed a bit high so it won't register that well when you look at it...just go in move cabs mode and lower the screen a bit...

 Also, I cannot get the feutilities.exe to work.  First it said it could not find qtintf.dll, so I downoaded it and put it in my system folder.  Now I just get script error.

>ah you probably got some older marcomedia files in your systemfolder...just copy the contents of the utilities folder to the root of the fe and start feutilites from there..

p.s. My system hangs from time to time when I hit 5 to switch from 3d to page mode.  In page mode the pictures seem screwed up.  I have an S3 Savage4 video card.

>could you elaborate how it looks...or could you post a picture or mail me a pic how this looks...

I understand that movies play on the movie screen...they are rm files and I have them able to play on the 3d models, but not in the theater.  I will move the screen down and try again.

I am not sure about the video though.  In the readme and the tutorial there is not much mention of it.  Can you give examples of how the lists are set up?  Is there to be a  playlistvideo.atf file?  What is the line to put into the arcacdes\fpsdemo2.cfg file?  What is the line to put into the cfg\lists\fpsdemo2.atf file?

Here is my fevideo.cfg file :
---------------------------------------

--pathnames --don't remove them just keep them empty if you don't use it for a certain emulator
emupath|c:\progra~1\window~1\|
gamepath|g:\fe3d\dummys\videos\|
workingdir|c:\progra~1\window~1\|
shortnamepath||--some, mostly dos based, emus can't lauch games with long file names. for those set this path to the location you keep the games. for all others keep this empty. The fe will search this path for the filename and then it will use the shortname to launch it. Keep this also to false when you don't have the complete filename with extension in the gamelist!

sshot||
marquees||
flyers||
cabinets||
qtvr||--quicktime movies and quicktime vr movies that can be shown in the info screens
gameinfo||
glvideodir||--folder with the realmedia videos that are to be shown on the models in the fe
helppath||--you can put pics like cp layouts in here. the fe will search for them and when nothing is found show the general layout pic setup in the cfg file for the current skin

--executable options
mame|wmplayer/wmplayer|
emuoption||
altmame||
runstopsound|true|--when set to true the background sound will stop while you run a game. I like to keep the backgroundsound running while I play mame games...use the win32 not the dos version...it gives the feel of being in an arcade while playing :-)
-------------------------------------------------
and here is my fevideocloptions.txt file :
-------------------------------------------------
|6|video|/play /close /fullscreen|
-------------------------------------------------

as I said above in cfg/emulators/femovies.cfg...not cfg/emulators/fevideo.cfg the last one is for playing movies externally!
open up cfg/emulators/femovies.cfg and change glvideo|yourvideospath|

then I made a little mistake yesterday...hehe was a bit late...then edit the movie playlist in arcades/playlistmovies.atf to your movies like:
|mymoviedescription|mymoviefilename||||movies|||Yes|movies|arcmovies||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(note that the 10th entry is movies...the 'emulator' cfg file to use...so cfg/emulators/femovies.cfg )

and to be even more precise the fe nows to use this playlist for this arcade, fpsdemo2, because in its cfg file arcades/fpsdemo2.cfg there is the entry moviesmenulist|playlistmovies.atf| this way each arcade can have its own set of movies to be played...

also you could try to change to a different renderer that may solve the problem of hanging your system if you change menus...see the prefrender option in fe.cfg

I am trying to enable both the movies (.rm)that play on the screen in the 3d arcade, and the video (mpg, avi) which play fullscreen.

I have my movies set up correctly I believe...because they will play in place of the screenshot.  when I go the the movie theater and hit 1 I get the list containing Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe (the 2 rm movies I have to test with)  when I hit 1 again to play a movie I get nothing.

Am I correct in my thinking that I should be able to get another videowall to select video from...which will play full screen?  I am having no luck at all with this.

Thanks Again!

From your next post it seems that you figured out the first question allready, correct me if I am wrong  ;)

something like that...the videowall is just a model like the other models that show up for a gamelist entry, look in your models folder. So yes you can add an entry to a gamelist that points to the video wall and as an emulator uses fevideo.cfg that points to mediaplayer to launch a video fullscreen. You can also have a demo of the complete video playing on the model in realmedia format when you have such a file.
