Need critique of Side Art and Marquee
« on: July 12, 2004, 05:17:01 pm »
I've finished the first drafts of my Side Art and Marquee for the following project: http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=16062.  Keep in mind that the concept of the cabinet is not "mame-focused".  It's is an "all-in-one" and therefore my focus for the art is on that and not on any one game system.

MAN!!!

That looks great.  Is it vector?

Don't worry so much about your side art being related to mame,

Pac-Man, Centipede, Mortal Kombat (I could go on) aren't related to mame either ;)

The mad dr was vectorized by 3dmacman for me.  The rest is my work (good or bad).

Do you think I should increase the opacity of the Dr. in the marquee?  I want him to be sort of faded, but I think he might be too light.

Now that you mention it, I kinda wonder how well the light is going to show through myself.  Do you have a printer at home that can print on transpercy "paper" you could test with that I suppose.

You should replace the beaker with in the Doc's right hand with a flight stick.   ;D

I really like it -- my only bit of constructive criticism is that there's a red wire that looks like it's in front of the beaker when it ought to be behind. That one detail I think would make it look a lot more natural and a lot less cut 'n paste.

Yeah.  When you look at the side art in its larger format it's easier to see that the red and blue wires are often cut by black lines of the hand, shirt and beaker.  Blame 3Dmacmame for that :)  I'll be cleaning that up before getting it printed.

Very cool.  The doctor in the marquee does seem a little light.  Is there a reason you don't want it the same look as the side?  Do you just think it would look better that way?  Just curious, I am really an idiot when it comes to art, thats why i had 3dmacman come up with my artwork scheme.

I wanted everything on the marquee to be greenish.  I will increase the opacity of the doctor in the marquee (it's currently at 45%, I'll probably increase it to 70% or so).
