NFL Blitz PC: Sound Issues
« on: July 04, 2004, 02:29:53 pm »
I recently bought a copy of the PC version of NFL Blitz, and while the game itself runs fine, there are some sound glitches. It seems that only 50% of the sound effects that should be playing actually do.

Here are some examples of these problems:
1) Crowd ambience disappears/returns randomly
2) Tackle sounds and other in-game effects are sometimes not played
3) Announcer omits portions of the "Tonight's Matchup" pregame speech
4) Scrolling down the team list sometimes plays very short "tick" sound effects rather than the game's usual team increment sounds
5) "Coaching Tip" themes between the 1st and 3rd quarters never play at all
6) The music that should play when you are choosing an extra point/conversion play after scoring a touchdown never does

Has anyone else experienced similar problems, and if so, were you able to remedy them?

Here are my computer's specs, in case it helps:
WinXP Pro SP-1a
P4 2.4 GHz
512 MB RAM
nVidia GeForceFX 5200 - 256 MB RAM
SB Live! 5.1

(Note: I'm using the unpatched version of the game, as the updated BlitzD3D.exe would crash whenever I would attempt to start a game.)

Changing my sound card's hardware acceleration from "Full" to "Basic" via DirectX's dxdiag seems to have fixed all of the above problems, save for #s 5 and 6. I'm wondering if doing this will affect my other programs, though. Is there a way to set custom DirectX settings that only load when a certain program is running?
