See below.  Stippling is the "rough,sandy" texture in the background.

One minor note, as I don't want to start a huge debate.  There is more detail on the BYOAC side, and the stippling bring this out.  On the Atari guy side, there is much less detail, and without stipling that side will be very shiny.  I think leaving one side stippled and the other not brings a nice contrast, and enhances the feeling of there being a "front" and "back" as opposed to two fronts.  Thus, my preference is stipple on the front, shiny on the back.

Also note that stippling is NOT free; it comes with increased die charges.

I voted that way too, but I think in the photo below is a weird custom texture, not representative of what we would get. I will confiirm before ordering though.

I disagree... if you were to paint something with a stipple sponge and texture paint, it would look just like that.

Ew, if that's true, I want to change my vote!

When I sent them the mock-up the guy referred to our texture as stipple.

I will call them and ask - this makes a huge difference.

I voted for stippling on both sides, but I would like to see a sample, or confirm that the picts above are what its all about.

I still think even that stipple would look good on the Pac side, but on the Atari side there would be too much of it.

Maybe a "matte" finish is a safer option. Great Western Mint has some examples. For instance their Trans America coin:

BTW I looked for some examples of stippling, but found virtually non. Only these matte coins and on those usually the higher details tend to be matte and the lower areas shiny. Maybe that's a design issue since they can only polish the outside (low areas) of the die normally?

I just remembered (I might remember wrong though), but didn't they ask for a 300dpi raster file? I doubt you can do much stippling in a 295x295 pixel sized bit of artwork. So then I assume it's something they add manually on the die?

Am I correct in the 295x295 dimensions btw? I'd guess that would give some other artwork problems too.

They just informed me they can take Illustrator files as well, so the quality should be good.

Not to be picky, but that's a nearly pure silver coin.  I doubt that level of detail is available in an amusement token in our price range...

Pixelhugger was looking for 300dpi files to do bling mockups... is that possibly what you're thinking of?  (I don't remember any "official" submission size being specified, but I could be wrong...

They never used the word 'raster'. they said 300 DPI camera ready.  She said if we can provide AI it would be much better quality so I don't think they are converting it.

Hrmpf, I voted "neither side" and I guess that was dumb. Can that count as "as little stippling as possible" (and thus option 1) (Still a little worried the stippling might come out looking bad on the actual coin) :edit: ok never mind "both sides" now has 4 votes more. How quick these votes can change

I called the mint and asked some questions about the stippling.  He argued that believe that there was no difference between Pixel's rendering and what is shown on the website.  

There is a chance that it will be a little more or less coarse, but I don't think it will be bad.
