web page hosting
« on: May 10, 2004, 10:59:09 am »
i did a search on both searches for "web hosting" and ive seen the faq thing about web hosting, but isnt that outdated?  well if it is, i have a question...

i know geocities and angelfire and all that are free, but the adds and web space suck big time.  is there anybody that will host a page for free? ;D  im getting close to finishing my Mamestrosity and i have lots of pics that id like to share.  who do i need to talk to??

Not free, but 1&1 has hosting for $4.99/mo.  I use it and it has been really good so far.

How much space do you need?  I can hook you up.  Not a pretty address, but it would be hosted.

americandemon-

yeah i dont care how long the url is.  i just wanted a place to post my pics without popups, and without it shutting down when too many people go to the site.  it wouldnt be anything fancy really....i dont have time to make some cool web site, so it would just be the pics with some text in it.  the pics are under 250k a piece, so it shouldnt take up too much space.  let me know how much space i can have.  thanks man.

Hulk...I know you  are probably looking for free hosting, but if you're interested I can give you a "Mame Deal"...see my signature bro.

By the way the prices are in CDN funds so it would be pretty cheap in US Funds.  Plus the MAME discount... ;D

Sorry for plug.

I can give you 10 megs of space.  Not much but if you need more I can create an extra ID for ya.  I'll hook up with you tonight on AIM and we'll get the details together.

Host your pics on Geocities.  Rename the .jpg to .txt and your images will still show up, as long as you put them in an img tag.

Yeah same here.  ;)  I'm at work too.  Yeah we'll get your Hulk pic hosted too so Angelfire doesn't remove it.   8)

You might want to try 1and1.com. I got the non-commercial package that includes 15 pop3 email accounts, you get to pick the domain and a 12 page web site that you have to create with a program called web site creator (WSC).  The package is 2.99 a month and 5.99 a year for domain registration.

I originally only wanted the email addresses with a private domain but ended putting up a website as well. WSC is super easy  to use (as is setting up email accounts) but it limits your input. For example, I wanted my family to be able to access their email accounts easily via the web when they are travelling. There is no way in WSC to make a button go to an external site. I had to have it open a new page on my domain and then put a link on that page. The page looks professional though.

I used to have my domain on Ampira but wasn't satisfied with their interface.

You can check out my site Here Note that you can post pictures as well but I don't have any yet. My arcade dealer flaked out on the cabinet and now I'm looking again. It's also a work in progress so don't expect too much.

I signed up at radish.net for $50 for 12 months of service. It's 40GB/m 1GB of space.. pretty good deal.  They took a couple days to set up my account, but I've had no complaints other than that.
