Post yer boot times!

Hi, all.  Please post your average boot-up time, if you've got one.  Make sure to mention your OS.  And, if yours is particularly fast, what tricks do you use?  Thanks!

I apologize for the math notation.  Oh, and I am defining boot-up time as the amount of time it takes from when you push the power button to when you can first give input to software other than the OS (i.e. the front end).  "Stand by" doesn't count, and be honest!  We're not comparing wang size or anything...

Less than 3 using Windows XP.

Tricks:

1. Run Bootvis.
2. Disable auto detection of new IDE devices
3. Eliminate syatem tray programs and background apps

.....as mentioned in MaximumPC's How To Guide. It's improved my boot time from close to 10 seconds to less than 3.

Tricks:  

I run frikkin xp, no tricks.... if you want a fast boot time use a new pc with xp, that's it.  

If 10 seconds is too long a wait then you are really impatient and don't need the stress of playing video games anyway.

I am, but I'm in the minority.... I have sense enough not to assume that eveyone else can understand it.

lol, Howard that sounds like boot envy...  j/k    I actually agree, to some extent.  My boot time in WinXP is pretty long right now.  I'm dual-booting with Win98, though.  I haven't timed it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I fall in the 30+ category.  Maybe that makes me a stress-free guy.

Don't miss-understand me... all I'm saying is when you get below the 15 second mark cutting off a few more seconds seems like a lot of work for little or no benefit.

35 seconds-ish. It doesn't even come out of standby in less than 15 seconds.

Having a Dell 400SC with a P2.4 Hyperthreaded and a gig of ram is NICE.

It's FAST! (Note, I'm counting "boot time" as time to login screen, as I'm on an NT domain w/ this PC)

Depends on what boot means
I'd say over 10 minutes for me from power on to when the last utility starts and computer is at idle including logon time.


My linux muchine boots to login in about 2 minutes.
