Kinkos Sucks!
« on: April 21, 2004, 03:22:52 pm »
Ok, I get my control panel artwork printed. Its 30x18. Not too big.

First I get it back and the color is off, blue is purple and yellow is red. So I have them redo it, I pick it up and it is HUGE! 40x24, so I take it back, they print a new one while I wait, it looks right,

I take it back to my work, measure it, and its still big!

DAMMIT!

I avoid Kinko's like THE PLAGUE. If you have a good Kinko's in your area that is the exception that proves the rule.

Everyone out there.... use a service like classicarcadegraphix.com... they know what we need these things for, and they have a clue, not to mention excellent quality.

I thought I should throw in a good word for Kinko's at the corner of Wall Street and Water Street in NYC.  They did a really good job with my CP underlay and backlit vinyl Marquee, and they came out right the first time.

I am sure that this is due to the fact that they are in the city and have probably 'seen everything.' I imagine a Kinkos where I live in the sticks of New Jersey might have not been so competent.

I thought my local Kinkos' did a good job on the Marquee that they printed for me.

It came out exactly the size I wanted.  It was ready sooner than they quoted, and the final price was lower than they quoted on the phone.

The dark blue was a little more purple than I expected, but that was more of an RGB to CYMK conversion issue.

Mine was purple at one time.

I finially got PhotoShop loaded and loaded my image. I made it the exact size I need and switched to RGB.

Is there anything else I need to do to it in order for
1) the blues to be bright not dull
2) the damn thing to look good.

Anyone wants to see my photoshop file, let me know.

Give it to a REAL printing company (classicarcadegraphix.com springs to mind) Pick a comparable blue out of one of those big racks of paint swatches at home depot. Mail it to them... tell them that you want the blues to generally be in that range, send them a swatch of the current, incorrect one, and tell them that is NOT what you want. Ask them to do a small test first to make sure that the blue is correct, be willing to pay a little extra.

Chris

I have done some Gliclee printing in the past, so I know the challenges of getting the colors just right, purples and blues are one of the hardest colors to try and color match.

If you could give me the file, I can print out a mini version and see how well it comes out, and then send you out a digital camera pic.

If you need a reference, check out:

or if you have already contacted classicarcadegraphix from what I have seen, they do fine work also.

Best Regards

Scott's company (mamemarquees.com) has also had a lot of great press here on the site. Do a quick search, and you'll find some great comments. I think Oscar's site has a link to them.

Scott, does your company do Giclee prints for your marquees & control panels? I've heard of it before, but until yesterday, I had never actually held one in my hand. The process produced some great results. I'm getting ready to do some web work for a company that makes a frame & giclee print overlay for plasma screens.  Pretty rediculous.

Their giclees are pretty amazing.

Yea, Ill throw in a plug for Scott too.  Mamemarquees.com did a good job for me as well.   Even though I only got stock artwork, he contacted me beforehand to be sure everything would be exactly as I requested.  When I learn Photoshop, I will be sending my artwork to him for production.
