Act Labs gun and wg k700 arcade monitor.
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:44:13 pm »
So I'm trying to get my act-labs gun to work with my arcade monitor.I'm using a arcade vga with the premade cable that Andy at ultimarc sells.According to act-labs H-sync and V-sync need to be wired separate and if i remember correctly when i wired Andy's premade cable I think that H and V were wired together in order to produce a picture.When i tried the gun it makes a flash on screen when i shoot but it does not seem to move the cursor.The closest i have found to an answer is on this page http://jstookey.com/arcade/WG_25k7191/ .It gives some nice info but I'm not clear what exactly i need to do.Any help would be appreciated.

If you wired H and V sync together it won't work.  Andy's cable should have just had H and V separate wires (at least mine did).

Could have sworn i read somewhere that they needed to be wired together to get composite sync but i could be wrong.I thought that i was in for something harder than this,like wiring separate h and v for the gun :applaud:

From ultimarc's ArcadeVGA FAQ:

*   Do Light Guns Work?

The Act-Labs USB gun works but there are some factors to bear in mind. The gun will only work if the H and V sync are not connected together. The H and V signals must both be connected to the monitor. OR, if a J-PAC is used for the connection, this will also work. A few people have found that ATI cards (including the ArcadeVGA) used with certain models of the D9200 monitor, produce a signal which is slightly too low for the gun. The Act-Labs gun seems particularly sensitive to the VGA signal levels and ATI cards do generally produce lower signal levels than other cards. We believe that some older variants of the D9200 load the signals (ie reduce the levels) more than others.

Unfortunately my monitor only has one sync cable running from it to my vga cable.Guess i need to solder a wire in but im a little uncomfortable with this prospect:(

yes the H and V need to be seperated for the act labs to be tracked on screen.

ultimarcs vga breakout cable does have the H and V seperated.

if your monitor works with seperated H and V then you should be able to wire it in and it will work.

if your monitor only has the H hooked up then it is running composite sync wich the light guns will not work with.

before you try to solder a wire into your monitor chassis for the V make sure it support's split H and V before you even start soldering on anythning.

Assuming you have a Wells Gardner K7000, it should support separate sync:

I'm not familiar with that monitor though, so I'm not sure how you would connect the sync wires.
