I'm truely sorry, but I have to say it.
This is by far the dumbest question ever asked here.....
Wide release? Do you think emulation people actually keep track of that stuff?
They only people that have this type of data are the game companies themselves.
Who:
a. are mostly defunct with and exception of a handful
b. can't easily find 20-30 year old sales records
c. aren't going to tell you "yeah that game sucked"
d. won't be willing to share their sales records in any useable form
Regardless wide release tells you nothing. Dragon ball Z could be considered a "wide release" game in America and it's one of the worst games ever. It became popular because of the millions of geeks watching cartoon network wanting their dragon ball z game to play while sitting around in their dbz under-roos. DOAXBV was a top seller, and if you get over the fact that there are pretty girls in it it's one of the worst games ever. Long story short the public is stupid and will buy anything if it's properly marketed. Many many popular games suck while many many obscure ones are great.
I really hate to smack ya down like that, but geese man think before you post.
